    !!

Gonna do some abyss drinking this afternoon as the snow falls outside and a rack of lamb cooks inside. Good ing day, IMO.

Also, tried a Boulder Brewery Porter last night that was absolutely delicious. It was a nitro pour, which I've never had before.

Anyone want to explain why/how that makes a difference?

    +1

2010 La Muerta is money. Hopothoesis C is also very high on my list of beers.

Just opened my last 2009 Abyss - it has really changed in the 2 years it's been aging. This smells like gingerbread with extra blackstrap molasses on top. I love it.

I would not be able to age a beer, especially that one.. I wouldn't resist the urge..

I watched an episode of Three Sheets the other day where they talked about how Guinness beer is way different in Ireland than it is here, and that was the main difference, aren't you supposed to wait 2 minutes for it to settle before you drink when it's nitro? I believe that's what they said on that episode.. it was interesting, I believe Left Hand's milk stout is also nitro, not sure though.. and there is a huge difference between tap and bottle as far as taste.

Odells Brewery in Fort Collins does a nitro pull of almost all of their beers alongside traditional pours. I've never had the Lefthand milk stout on a nitro pull, though, only the regular bottle. It's pretty good.

I have to put things away where I won't notice them. This is where having a wine fridge comes in handy.

So that's how the other half lives.

I'm struggling to down this Negra Modelo while waiting for my turkey leftovers to nuke. On the bright side, I did get the kids to help with the tree this morning.

Since I still can't find any Abyss anywhere, I've been asking my local stores about anything that might come remotely close. Was suggested this.

    Wow.

The Abyss bottle also says best after 8/4/12. Guess this may be shelved in the back of my beer fridge with the Stoic:
Picked up a Stoic yesterday at Spec's....I could have sworn it said best BEFORE 8/4/12.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying?

I'll have to try it then. I've never been fond of anything I've had of theirs, as well.

Yeah, the place i thought I could get the Abyss, is stonewallin' me. Oh well.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of theirs either, which is why I had some misgivings about tryin this one. I'd like to support local breweries, but...

Jess informs me we still have an unopened bottle of the Abyss. I guess its last years. Thats a good start to the weekend!
These types of beers can be aged for quite a while. A friend and I decided to "build our own beer" and by the time we finished the ingredients list, it was definitely an imperial stout. We named our beers at the time based on events that happened during the brewing process. We called this one the Imperial Grackle. He cracked one open after over five years and he said it tasted amazing.

If anyone in Dallas is looking for The Abyss, i found some at Lakeview Liquor. In Dallas off Garlad road next to White Rock Lake. I snagged a couple bottles but there was at least 5 or 6 more.

    Got one on reserve.

The guy struck me as one already annoyed by the inexplicable number of calls he'd received in the last hour or so for that beer.
