Went to the Utah game during the pregame I was focusing on Leonard. He shot roughly 50 mid-range jumpers. At first I was keeping track he was like 23-31. I would estimate he hit about 65-75% of these practice shots. What I was surprised about though is I only saw him take one practice 3pt shot(he missed). Seemed stupid to me but he did hit 1 or 2 mid-range shots in the game.

Side note Bonner was hitting roughly 90% of his shots in the pregame(a combination of mid-range and 3pt shots).

Shows how damn good you got to be in the NBA, I remember I went to go see the Spurs play the Mavs in Dallas in the playoffs in 2010, and a hour before the game seeing Mcdyess hit shots as from 3 point range with ease, and the same from Bonner, which I can't remember him missing from the 3 point line during warmups.

All "shooters" in the NBA can hit 9/10 in practice or shootaround. Its what they do when the bright lights turn on and 6'8, 30 in vertical defenders running at them that make them great.

Leonard has a very flat shot... make or miss, it almost always hits the back of the rim first.

Bonner's percentage would've been a lot lower if it had been pregame warmup for a playoff game.

I believe there's a clutch factor you need to hit big shots or even very wide open shots. I don't think Matt has it. I remember watching the Jordan Bulls and if they needed a three and Kerr was open he was guaranteed to hit the shot. It's also called timely shots. There's more pressure because momentum is riding on the shot. Bonner can only hit 3's that have little consequence.

When he went to SPN Sport Science he hit 80% of his shots.... while on the court if you're a 45% shooter you can have a career in the NBA...

Basketball is like a lot of other sports. It's not how you do on that 2nd or 3rd attempt, it's that first one.

In billiards, for example, it's common to see people run rack after rack once they get going, but once they miss, and they sit out a few minutes waiting their turn, they might miss again right away.

So, when people like Bonner get zeroed in, sure they can repeat the motion and keep hitting. It's finding that motion out of nowhere that's hard.

That's why it's important for shooters to get to the FT line early, and why they take every opportunity to fire up a shot. They are gauging and adjusting all the time.
