Spurs Recall Gary Neal from Austin Toros
1/3/2012
SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have recalled Gary Neal from the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League.
Neal was assigned to the Toros on January 2 for a medical rehab assignment after undergoing an appendectomy on December 12, 2011.
Neal enjoyed a successful rookie campaign during the 2010-11 season. He averaged 9.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 21.1 minutes in 80 games. He led all rookies in three-point field goal percentage, posting a .419 mark, and earned a spot on the 2011 All-Rookie First Team.
Neal is expected to be in uniform tomorrow night when the Spurs host Golden State at the AT&T Center at 7:30 p.m.

I kinda doubt it. It was just an appendectomy after all.
Just telling CJ "look, it's temporary, we do it for everyone".
It's up to Neal and Anderson to help carry the load now....not gonna be easy at all.
If there was ever an opportunity for relatively unknowns to make a contract happen, this is it.
from what ive seen of anderson im not expecting much neal is the guy to pick up the offensive slack for sa
when was his surgery? yeah, I could look it up, don't want to...
Long enough ago to be recovered by now. It was done laparoscopically, so the turn around time isn't that long. The main question is whether he's in shape though, since he hasn't participated in training camp or anything I don't believe.
No doubt a product of the public school system...![]()
About time, we need this guy ASAP. He is prob our best pure scorer that we have. Hopefully JA's shot finally starts to drop too.
Gary Neal is the only Spur that I dont cringe when he takes a shot...
As great as Manu is, at least SG is the one position at which the Spurs are equipped to deal with an injury. Anderson starting with Neal backing him up will work out fine. The only problem is that we'll see more TJ Ford...
I always feel like its going in when he shoots. I hadn't felt like that since Brent Barry.
Though RJ's shot is looking pretty sweet RIGHT NOW
“If Manu was healthy, Gary would have played a couple of games in Austin without a doubt,” Popovich said. “With Manu’s injury since he has been cleared to go five-on-five, we figured we might just go ahead and throw him in the fire with that situation.”

I sit corrected.
I'm hoping this new rule about being able to (voluntarily) send guys down to rehab will be a nice little boost for the D-League. Minor league baseball teams often have much higher attendance when a major leaguer passes through, even if he's only going to play an inning or two; I imagine we'll see similar boosts for tickets/merchandise/concessions in the D-League if teams choose to utilize it.
Maybe if Manu gets sent down for a game when he comes back.
