Spurs are a fountain of youth actually..the media focuses on TD only..he is old..so is the whole team..another falsehood.
Are you some sort of mathematician? Kawhi is like 40 something.
The problem is that their stars are old. Yes, I include TP who has played more games/minutes than the below 30 year old. He relies mostly on his speed and if this season is any indication a strong decline has begun ...
Having young role/bench players cannot overshadow that the Spurs have no star player who is in his prime. But thats what you need to win a championship (or you are the 2004 Detroit Pistons).
If I was Howard I would sign with the Spurs in the offseason, tbh.
Like people have already mentioned (including Elliott on broadcasts), Spurs have just earned the reputation of being an "old" team over the past years (back when we were carrying a core of Tim, Manu, Horry, Barry, Finley, etc...), even though now they are in the middle of the pack on the list of average age. The fact that their two biggest faces (like Timmy who is halfway ancient, and Manu who is no spring chicken) are getting up in the years doesn't help, but the new infusion of youth apparently hasn't yet been noticed by the media or general public.

IIRC, the Spurs are somewhere like 27.3, and the NBA average is something like 26.8, so Spurs are just barely over the average.

The best 2 players on the team are 35(36 in April) and 34. So, in the only way that really matters, yes, the Spurs are old.
Those two players are only currently only accounting for 47.9 / 240 minutes a game, so I'd beg to differ.
Good point. With Manu out and Tim playing limited minutes, the actual team on the floor is rather young overall.
you can't just count their age and claim if they're old or young. the core has been to 3 finals together (and duncan 4), count the number of playoffs games and they've played a lot of games, that's a huge factor.
Elliott keeps banging on about this ad nauseum, but he neglects to mention that while the role players are young the stars are old. It's stars that usually win ballgames.
However, I am enjoying watching the youthful role players energize the team.
Why does it matter? Calling a team old or young is just a media gimmick to make their story sound more interesting. Anyways I saw a chart a while back showing the past 30 championships or so were almost all won by "old" teams so take that for what it's worth...
Duncan is old, he has limited mobility and had to lose weight which compromise his post game. Manu's old too, and has became injury prone. Parker, RJ, Bonner and Neal are in their prime. The rest are young players that aren't yet in their prime.
The problem is that those that are too old were the ones that made the difference.
Your average is off base. For a more accurate reading do not average every player equally. You need to take the weighted proportion of minutes played per game for each player then take that average. You will see the average go up.
We are old in our stars, that's for sure, but we have to consider that Timmy is playing in a limited role and limited minutes as well.
Probably the FO will consider as decisive the outcome of this season for deciding the future strategy.
If, like is probable, we'll still make the play offs, probably the F.O. will embrace the strategy going on "till all the old players wheels will fall off".
One big point is that after this year our oldest player is a free agent...but at the same time I frankly hope and think he will be the first one re-signed next year.
Only in case Timmy will retire imho the re-build strategy (that probably was already considered by our front office starting from this season, see all the RJ amnesty stuff) will take place...and, at that point, Manu will be the only "old star" still under contract.
As for the "cap considerations", with Tim and the others re-signed (I can't understand if Neal is still under contract, plus maybe TJ and Green will deserve a contract) probably we will be in the same position of today : that means we'll have the chance to sign only minimum players or rookies plus the 3 million exception...that could be used on Lorbek (but it's doubtful he will really join us at that price, considering his good situation with Barcelona).
It's not an ideal situation...but, for sentimental reasons (I, like, I suppose , every other spurs fan of the last ten years, would like to see our "big three" dressing only in silver and black) is the one with the higher probability to come true.
Imagine a Wizards era Michael Jordan with a young Bulls team. The Bulls would be considered an old team, by me for sure, because MJ is the deciding factor.
I feel the same about Tim. As he does, so do we.

This role players are not old at all! Gino and Tim are the older ones on this team and they are two key parts (One being our best player). Overall they are not very old, just so happens their stars are (Tony alot of mileage for his age too).
Are the lakers old, narutoluva?
