Youtube takes at least 24 hours to count views after 300. It's to guard against spam adverts for views/cash, to my knowledge. Not unusual at all.

It's most likely not; the viewcount for videos isn't iterated for extremely long times.

Did Gingrich give an explanation on why he was not eligible?
Truth Squad: Gingrich's claim that he was not eligible for the draft is true:
The facts: Gingrich turned 18 in 1961, as U.S. involvement in Vietnam was escalating. But he continued his studies, getting an undergraduate degree in 1965, his Master's in 1968 and his doctorate in 1971.

According to the Selective Service, prior to 1971 "a man could qualify for a student deferment if he could show he was a full-time student making satisfactory progress in virtually any field of study. He could continue to go to school and be deferred from service until he was too old to be drafted."

In addition, the fact that Gingrich had two daughters -- born in 1963 and 1966 -- gave him a III-A classification, putting him far back in the line of people who might have been called to serve.

Why did you omit the conclusion?

Verdict: True, but incomplete. Gingrich is correct, that he was not eligible for the draft. But that does not mean he could not have been one of the 3 million Americans who ultimately served in the war.

That fact seems to be something he has considered. "Given everything I believe in, a large part of me thinks I should have gone over," he told Vanity Fair in 1989.
Gingrich could've opted to go if he wanted. Same rules applied to Paul, he was also married with kids and he went.

I posted enough to answer the question. I guess you won't be satisfied unless I quote the entire article.

I notice you always find fault in me. Again, what is this personal obsession with me? Don't expect me to care about answering your quotations anymore, anyway. You are harder to reason with than a rock. You dismiss may valid points just to ask more questions as if something will matter more than those you dismiss.

But what Paul was trying to say was that he could have served like he himself did, yet didn't. And that people who ran away from the war aren't qualified to send our children off to war. And guess what? He's right. Same goes for Bush, the pussy bas .

How do you know what he was trying to say?

My whole point is that Gingrich's answer was accurate. Paul did not destroy him with that response. If you have followed what I think of Gingrich, you know I don't like him and that I do like Paul. Still, I find it in poor form, those who will take a situation out of context.

Do you think you are making a valid point? There were plenty of young men to be drafted for grunt work before Gingrich would ever be considered. The military also drafted people who were needed for their skills. That's why Paul was selected, because of his skills.

Yes, Gingrich could have volunteered. That isn't the argument though, is it.

Exactly. Newt and all the other Republicans are chickenhawks who are willing to send kids off to war in 3rd world countries when they've never been in war. Ron Paul is the only real veteran of them all and oddly enough he's the one who knows to avoid war at all costs.

Because he said it himself pretty clearly, you're just playing semantics. Technically "not eligible," or not, he was in the exact same situation as Paul. Paul went. Newt did not.
