A trade salary filler? Because that is all Mercer was EVER supposed to be in SA.
I just realized this. I haven't posted here in almost a year.
I'm high...but I think this is a legit realization.
Happy 2012, y'all. I'm back in San Antonio until next week and it feels great to be here.
A trade salary filler? Because that is all Mercer was EVER supposed to be in SA.
Really?
I'm fairly certain they were at least hoping he'd turn out to have some usable talent.
You are high at 4:32 AM on a Tuesday morning???
Cool!
Exactly, I remember the Spurs grabbing him from Indy as part of the Danny Ferry trade prior to the 2004 season.
He wasn't very good and had a low b-ball IQ.
Looking back, that 2004 squad was probably the best Spurs team defensively.
I was pretty excited about Mercer when he got here and then he ing sucked.
Green is almost the direct opposite of Mercer.
Green is a defensive specialist. Mercer never played defense in his life.
Green is known as a glue guy. Mercer was cancerous.
Green's scoring is his major question mark. Mercer's scoring was his one strength.
Green is a three-point shooter. Mercer couldn't shoot threes at all.
Green is a finesse finisher. Mercer was a power finisher.
Green is said to be a down to earth hard worker. Mercer was an en led slob.
That said, for being elevated and stumbling onto ST in the middle of the night, it's a pretty good comparison![]()
Remember when we saw Mercer and some other scrub Spurs at a club at 3am the night before a game?
You didn't know it, but, I was your limosine driver that early morning as the sun rose over Bexar County. You two were so quiet as we drove thru the deserted streets of upscale San Antonio.
And more than a little frugal with the tip.![]()
Somehow I feel like there's a way to combine this thread
With this one
Are you guys still high on JA's potential?
I bet that's what mikekim meant.
Painful memories man...painful.
I could never understand why Sean was so high on Mercer..."instant offense" yes, but no "D" to speak of.
While were at it, we can dredge up memories of the SpiderA few good games and a great block on an aging Jordan was nice though.
Mercer played initially, but was cut after during the season. There must have been some problems.
Still don't get why was better to commit $9M for Hedo and Mercer in 03-04 and only $3M for S-Jax that season.
That must have been BC....before children!
Actually after tonight I'm more convinced OP was onto something. Danny Green is more Ron Mercer than I initially thought. Way too much focus on offense and not nearly enough focus on defense. Its disappointing, because unlike Mercer Green has the necessary tools to be very good on D.
what do you expect him to do when his playin with scrubs most of the time, who are also looking to score first
seriously without tjford or manu playin with the bench, its crap offense
In the first 7 minutes of the second half, our STARTERS got outscored 21-7. That's 7 points in 7 minutes - a 48 point pace. The game was lost and out of hand by the time the bench took the floor.
Before tonight, the Spurs' bench was like 2nd or 3rd in the league. This game was a cluster#$%$, but it's the starters that you should be talking about.
I thought Danny was okay. I didn't think he disappointed being that he's a semi-rook and road games are always tough. At least he hustled and put the ball in the basket. Sure, he made mistakes... but a lot of players did tonight, and some of them really are running out of excuses.
even with the mistakes i can live with that cause he did end up puttin up 20pts
while others continue to get pt while performing like , at leasts is useful can be used as composs, as for the players what are they good for towards this team?
I'm dissapointed that he thinks offense first. Its an effort thing with Green. He always gives 100% on offense but not on defense. THAT is what I really dislike about him. As a young player coming up with his toolset I'd like to see the exact opposite.
Eh, I wouldn't go that far with Green. Comparing him to Mercer is saying you want to waive him.
I think Green gets himself in trouble on defense when 1) he starts trying to do too much and ends up scrambling when the situation calls for solid play 2) he wrestles with the screener instead of fighting around it 3) he gets into the habit of letting his man go by him so he can go for the block.
I have yet to see a situation where I think Green isn't trying on defense. He tries really hard most of the time ... sometimes too hard.
And when he is playing with the right balance, he can be a big asset on defense. We'll see but I'm still high on Green overall.
amazing 1 loss out of 4 games, posters already on his ass after a good stretch of games where he contributing...
Goddamn. I'm a fan of sarcasm. One of its biggest fans, actually.
But this forum carries it around like a disease.
I never said he turned out to be what the Spurs wanted him to be. Go be a good journalist or something, bro.
