It could be 2003 for his work on Kobe (on both ends) but then again his overall impact throughout that playoff run wasn't his least of the three championships.

I'd say it was 2005 since he was a beast in each round. Then again, in 2007 he might have had his two most impressive defensive series -- against the Suns and against the Cavs. Bowen was older in 2007 than Duncan is now so that would have been a pretty late prime ... but there's a good case there.

I think it's hard to pick one year and say that was a player's prime. Anywhere between 2003-2005 would be my pick. Although he was still great through 2007.

It makes you wonder...can a defensive specialist have a late and/or extended prime like that? With a scoring big next to Duncan, we could see Duncan for another 3-4 years like he said in his current role of defense plus top-of-the-key jumpshots.

I think it was 2007. He was fantastic against Nash and then stopped James. Remember James was on fire against the Pistons and Bruce did a great job on him.

I would have to agree that Bowens best defensive year was 2007, with 2005 being a VERY close second.

Without Bowen playing the way he did against Nash in the second round, I seriously wonder if we still could have beaten the Suns.

A lot of that discussion and contemplation revolves around match-ups. Just because he was placed in a position to make a bigger impact in 07 doesn't mean that he was more capable at that time. It just meant that he might have drawn relatively easier and less critical assignments in previous years when compared to the incredibly difficult ones he mastered in 07.
