tbh last night I couldn't sleep. I was sitting in a corner with a flash light and handgun because I felt the presence of the Iranian bogeyman.

it will be interesting to see whether the GOP coheres or splits this time around. I think most Republicans will eventually hold their noses and vote for the obvious "not Obama" with an (R) next to his name, but anything could happen.
I agree they'll cohere around whatever candidate is eventually chosen. The hatred for Obama is palpable. Having said that, I think it'll take a bit longer this time around (relative to '08) to reach that eventual candidate.

Santorum is a joke. He's the " hunter" in my book. He's care more about gay sex, gay people, and Muslims than the economy. Who the cares about gay guys doing each other and Muslims doing their thing? I mean seriously, isn't the economy an important issue?

Ignoring the obvious troll attempt, I think he's pretty knowledgeable on the economy and generally well-spoken.

Then why doesn't he focus on it instead of going on and on about gay people?

Hatred for Republicans is also palpable. There's way too much passionate hatred on both sides, tbh.

I'm guessing you're not watching coverage of the campaign, more specifically the debates. I think the majority of the discussion is centered around the economy and not the issue of same-sex marriage.

True, though there's no central figure that democrats can vilify as of yet. Tieing back to the original point of this thread, I think Santorum actually would be easier to vilify by democrats than Romney because if his extreme social conservative views.

the disgust for Romney's plasticity, soullessness and aloof, robotic elitishness is already plain. if he's elected this year Romney will become the default target of political hatred and scorn (the current absence of which you rightfully speak). All American presidents are abused in this manner, so it's only a matter of time before liberals have a new bete noire...

... but not 'til 2016, by my reckoning. Obama will beat Romney. It might not even be close.

In 2016 it will be Jeb Bush's turn to be president, and the GOP always nominates the next guy in line, so back to dynastic alternation it is. (Bush v. Clinton)

    yeah, obama will win.

imo, only ron paul would have a chance if he took more a campaign emphasis of keeping tabs on congress and letting states decide what's best for themselves.

Don't project your version of Romney on the American public. I think it's highly more likely he's vilified for the outcome of some of his business ventures with Bain. I sincerely doubt his "vanilla" personality will cause people to hate him.

"I think it's highly more likely he's vilified for the outcome of some of his business ventures with Bain"

Bain is definitely a black mark, as is his inherited wealth and privilege, but completely separately he's been lying and slandering and flopping and saying stupid all along.

The media finally called McLiar in 2008 on his lying. Let's see if they call Willard Gecko on his lying.

His robotic, monotonous repeating of dumb like "I know how the economy works" appeals only to the dumbest of his fans.

The flip-flopping may be a strong detractor in the primaries, because he's mostly gone more liberal with his stance, but his lean toward moderation might actually help him in the general election. I think he can successfully moderate his positions while still drawing stark contrast with Obama on basic tenants of governance.

And I dont think his robotic, monotonous demeanor really "appeals" to anyone. I just don't think it's a reason he'll be hated.

it's not the vanillaness, it's the malleability, the willingness to be all things to all people. if you think Kerry had it hard with flip-flppping, just wait.

Karl rove showed that you can get elected by exciting the conservative base, instead of running towards the independent middle ground. What does Obama have to point to that makes you think he can near anyone. No one with this bad of unemployment numbers and high number of inflation has ever been re elected
Until he did. You were wrong here.

    Why is that?

    Heh, no it was me.

Actually, I was looking for something else, and ran across this thread. My main underlying motivation was to encourage someone to look a bit beyond their self-created information bubble, although I would be less than honest if I didn't admit to a small amount of "neener neener".
