I will try the spirits next time I get to S.D., or if I order some online...will try the sculpin IPA next and whatnot. Yeah, I'm fortunate that Cali has a ton of BrewPubs out here...I'm really a novice, so I'm still learning what a good beer is.

Tbh I also have some Stone Pale Ale. Likely wait till tomorrow to drink it. Feel like I've been drinking too much as it is.

Will also look for Ruination or Arrogant bas this weekend. Anyone know where I can pick some up? I am not too far from South Bay, for SoCal bros.

Their smoked porter is also worth trying; it's like a liquid brisket. It's not as good IMO as the four I listed though.

Stone Pale Ale and the Smoked Porter are kinda bleh imo. The Pale tastes like old Sierra.

I'd put Stone SSR near the top of their beers, personally.
I don't think I have ever seen it. Have you tried the 11.11.11 Vertical Epic flavored with Anaheim chiles and cinnamon?

Yeah, it is ok. I was kinda disappointed. SSR = Sublimely Self Righteous. Their Imperial Russian Stout was good this year too.

I don't drink their porter a lot, but every once in a while I'm in the mood for that really strong smoke flavor it has. I agree that their pale ale is nothing special (I like Sierra Nevada's classic much better).

Good, so I won't feel like I'm missing anything by skipping it (the 11.11.11 Vertical Epic). Neither of those ingredients seem at all appealing to me in a beer.

Smoked Porter is good, for a smoked porter.. I've never had Stone Pale Ale.. I've got to have their strong stuff if I'm buying any of it. SSR is also my favorite, not to mention the label art..

I recently had Vertical Epic and I thought it was good.. Didn't really look it up much but it certainly tasted like a belgian and it was good.. I can't say I tasted the ingredients it had on the label..

Sounds like you forgot to take air drag into account tbh.

The only drag involved will be when I belch at the end.

Have you tried the Stone Pale yet? I want a few more opinions before I run out there.

Vertical Epic is on the list too. I hear good things in general about it.

    Yuck. Liquid Smoke is cheaper.

I know "88/100: Good" sounds like a glowing review, but lots of Stone beers are rated "World Class" by them. For instance:

I enjoy Stone's products for the most part, but I'm not sure they're my favorite.

I got a bottle of Duvel--anyone a fan of it?

Seriously though, it's phenomenal. If you have the right kind of glass it has an enormous ing head too.

Cool. Thanks Baselin! Yeah, I was turned on to this liquor store near my area that offers a ton of these craft beers and microbrews...so it's really taking up my coin lol. They have a ton of other trappist beers and whatnot. I'm like wow...

This is the latest local brew that has my hubby and his Homebrew Club buddies calling for extra "meetings"; it's Ranger Creek's Oatmeal Pale Ale. I'm partial to the South Texas Lager, but the Mesquite Smoked Porter is awesome----and I don't normally care for porters. Sorry for the crappy phone pic

The Mesquite Smoked Porter, I believe I had it at the flying saucer, if you guys think that Stone's Smoked Porter tastes like brisket.. You should try the Mesquite Smoked Porter off draft.. It was like I was drinking smoke ..

Ranger Creek's Mesquite Smoked Porter's malt is cold smoked. I know Rob Landerman, their brewer - I asked him how the they kept the mesquite flavor present without overpowering the malt and everything else. Nice beer, much better than Stone Smoked Porter IMO. At the Draught House Anniversary in October he brought up a firkin of it he had thrown some beef jerky into, it was pretty good as well (even though it sounded odd).

    I really like Duvel.

I got a bottle of Black Metal for my birthday (apropo since the friend who gave it to me is a beer connesuir as well as a metal head). I am thinking about opening it tonight. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

It's a pretty good Imperial Russian Stout.

Edit: Also easily Jester King's best beer.

I'm game for giving a try. Its just that I haven't heard much about these "smokey" beers before. Looks interesting.
