Unless we make a trade, we don't have many good options in the off season in terms of getting a quality big. Based on the 2012 free agent class, I put these players at the top of the list that we could realistically sign to the Spurs. Most are restricted but I can't see their teams matching. What would be your top 3?

    My Top 3
    1. Chris Kaman
    2. Darrell Arthur
    3. Robin Lopez

    Power Forward

    Jason Thompson
    Marrese Speights
    D.J. White
    Ersan Ilyasova
    Darrell Arthur
    Jason Maxiell
    Ian Mahinmi

    Center

    Chris Kaman
    Robin Lopez
    Mehmet Okur

What happened to Joel prezbilla or however you spell his name? Wasn't he going to pick a team after the holidays?

We don't need a starting big. We need a rotational big that can play defense and has some size. When Pop has this he will capitulate to Splitter playing along side Duncan. Pryzbilla would be ideal for this year.

RJ will be gone either trade or amnesty next year, for sure. As such you never know who might be available thorugh a trade.

I wonder how much faith the FO has in our bigs overseas (Richards, Lorbek?) Do you think they anticipate one of these guys coming over and being an instant contributor. With the way Splitter is playing and the fact that he is proving he can play effectively alongside Duncan, I think we are one solid big away from being back in serious le contention. If we could have a three man rotation at the 4/5 for the playoffs with Blair providing spot minutes and just bursts of energy play we would not be in too bad of shape in my opinion. It kind of makes me miss Dice to be honest. We need to trade in some of our wing depth for an athletic, defensive minded four. I know it is hard to judge the team because of all the injuries but we are going to get pounded inside again this year unless a change is made. And the fact that there aren't too many options that people are drooling over in free agency suggests that the move has to be made via trade.

And for the record I love Kaman and think he would make a great Spur. But I wonder how he would work alongside Duncan on defense because both lack the mobility to defend the pick and roll. I would be really excited if we landed Okafor though, via trade. Totally a pipe dream but I would rather have an athletic, defensive minded player to compliment Duncan.

Lorbek would be a candidate, provided he wanted to come over. Richards is way too raw, and not an option for at least a couple of years.

    Richards would go to Austin.

When will you guys realize and accept the fact that just because YOU think the spurs need a big and just because YOU think the spurs are looking for one...

does not mean that Pop is looking for a big and does not mean that Pop will play a big.

Look at Pop's last three or four years of coaching....that will give you a clear answer.

Maybe this is a forum and we like to toss ideas around? There are already plenty of hate-pop threads.

I personally would like to see Speights come to the Spurs. Don't see it happening, but I have always liked his game.

It's really quite funny if you think about it.

Really? Pryzbilla is always injured and so what if we get a starting caliber player. I don't know about you but I want the best big I can find and then we can figure out rotations.

I hate the way Europe pushes young players into semi-pro leagues spoiling any chance for NCAA eligibility they would other wise have had. It would be quite nice honestly for Richards to have been able to do that. He would be getting more appropriate coaching at a more consistent level of basketball (the smaller euro leagues can have teams in the same league and division all over the place professionalism and talent wise.) with a good chance for an education and alot less chance of the sleazy business practices showing up.

Worst part is I would also like to see a semi-pro regional basketball circuit develop as well. For some reason to many colleges have turned their athletic programs into semi-pro spectacles. There is definitely a place for college athletics, there is also a place for regional and town/ city based athletic spectacles. For some reason the US has decided to combine the two for the benefit of neither, and arguably the harm of the athletes.

The Rockets have declined their option for Jordan Hill for the 12-13 season.

"They did not pick it up," his agent Kevin Bradbury said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "I think for Jordan it'll be an opportunity for him to test the free agent market.

"Obviously as long as he continues to play the way he's playing, there'll be a market for him out there."

Hill would have made $3.632 million next year.

If Spurs can land Greg Oden or Kevin Garnett for around the MLE amount for about 2 years then I'm up for it. I hope the Spurs don't overpay for a big man unless, it's a short term contract for one or two years, or we realistically go for Dwight Howard, which I don't see happening, but can see us giving DH a call at least. Roy Hibbert is another candidate I like, and worked out with TD this past summer, I would give him close to about $10 million for him, but nothing more.
