I would've hired an offensive-minded HC to make Andrew Luck's transition even easier. They need to hire an OC w/ a good track record now. I wonder if Arians would be up for it, or if he'll retire...
Colts Hire Ravens DC Chuck Pagano As Head Coach
![]()
Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano, center, shares a light moment with outside linebackers Jarret Johnson, left, and Terrell Suggs during NFL football training camp at the team's practice facility in Owings Mills, Md.
The Colts coaching search is over. The team has hired Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano as head coach.

What a ty hire.
Seriously, how much coaching does it take to make a defense with Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Haloti Ngata, and Terrell Suggs look good?
So Montreal is keeping Trestmann ?
yeah
Alouettes head coach Trestman interviewed with Colts
The Montreal Alouettes will have their management team back after all.
The CFL team learned Wednesday that head coach Marc Trestman wouldn't be heading to the Indianapolis Colts to fill their vacant head coaching position. That job instead went to Baltimore Ravens defensive co-ordinator Chuck Pagano.

Like this for a few reasons. Dude is a career secondary coach which is without a doubt the Colts worst aspect on defense. They've been real bad at stopping the run for what seems like ten years now, but I think that's more due to that got Bill Polian drafting small defensive players and especially after this season, relying on the long of Peyton Manning to get wins and playoff berths.
But I'm most excited about the fact that this likely means the death of the Tampa 2 defense in Indy. The thing is nearly every other defense relies on corners who can play solid man coverage and right now the only DBs in Indy who I think keep their roster spots are Jerraud Powers and Antoine Bethea. Freeney and/or Mathis are likely gone if they switch to a more blitz oriented defense. Freeney won't be a good stand up rusher; I think Mathis would though, so it will be interesting to see what happens. Their new GM scouted for Jim Johnson in Philly where blitzing everyone was considered a prevent defense.
Bottom line is I think the Colts know where they failed in the Manning era, and that was never putting a gritty defense on the field. I do think they will prioritize getting a solid OC or QBs coach for Luck, but they want a balanced team this time around, not just a superstar QB with a bunch of toys on offense.
Trestmann was known as a QB guru going back to his days at Da U, when he mentored guys like Kosar and Testaverde. He would have been an interesting choice with Luck coming in.
What the was he doing in that barren wasteland known as the CFL?
Good question TBH
im guessing not much because they are all very good defensive players
I don't think anybody wants to talk to the ball coach.
Steelers targeting... wait for it... Jim Caldwell to replace Arians.
Colts also trying to get Keith Butler (Steelers LB coach and assumed heir apparent to LeBeau) to be their DC. Steelers and Ravens are good teams to mine defensive coaches from but can't help but feel that Pagano is kind of still a Raven at heart what with all this let's hire all these Steelers people to weaken their team .
Cardinals tried to get Kieth Butler twice in 3 years and both times the Steelers didn't let him negotiate. Pretty bull move on their part to not let him take one of the many DC jobs available.
I hear Tomlin's going to add Raheem Morris to his staff too. The brothas are stickin' together.
lol Raheem Morris
lol "I'm gonna let all my coaches do the work while I do nothing but make African battle cries for team morale!"
btw I like the Arians hire...He's a good guy to guide Luck early on.
Who knows how Pagano will be as a HC, but at least you know with him there the Colts will be drafting strictly defense for the next couple years.
If Peyton was healthy they could pay him his 28mil bonus then trade him for a load of picks and players.
Me too. He actually did a pretty good job w/Tim Couch when he was in Cleveland (Couch wasn't nearly as bad as he's made out to be, BTW.)
