Paul Pierce is one of the most underrated players ever.

No flash to his game at all. Not much athleticism to his game either. Focuses on fundamentals and has a fantastic jumpshot. All he needs is a small amount of space and can get his shots off, and he is as good as anyone at finding ways to create space. Oh and he's clutch as .

Pierce reminds me of one of those rec-league players with a bad body and knee braces who still schools guys half his age. That's actually a compliment.

Tait good to see you around here, agree whole-heartedly. I don't think he is THAT underrated though. I think he is properly rated but people understimate him because he is not very fast nor jumps very high. I just think people forget when they mention the better players at his position because he is not very flashy. But he has been a better player than Melo and Durant or any other small forward of recent years. They guy has scored more points than Bird and if not for Artest making some key plays in Game 7 would only be 1 ring beind Larry Legend. No, he is not in Bird's class ... but the guys is nails.

IMO, hes underrated in terms of all-time talks.

As of right now, aside from Bird, I don't see any SF that are just flat out, unquestionably superior to Paul Pierce. Yes, that includes guys like Dr. J and Nique. Although Lebron will quite soon overtake the throne, right now I'd say Pierce is one of the best 5, maybe 3 SFs to play the game.

You make some great points, SF is actually a position all-time that is relatively weak. I loved Nique but Pierce's game is more rounded. King was a greater scorer but I think Pierce's defense (especially after KD and Doc showed him how) is better than King's. I think a healthy TMAC and Hill would of had a shot ... but Pierce has been more durable and consistent than both. Pippen was great, but no where near as clutch as Pierce... but he was a great defender and a better passer. We all know Lebron will most likely pass them both but if you are discussing all around play Pierce is definitely in the class of those guys probably a notch behind Bird and eventually Lebron. Pippen vs. Nique vs. Pierce is an interesting debate though.

Yeah, healthy T-Mac and Grant Hill are some of the most talented players ever. IMO T-Mac is the most naturally talented and gifted player I have ever seen.

If I had to choose between the three, of Pippen, Nique, and Pierce, I think I would take Pierce. Pippen is a perfect 2nd option, not really a true #1. Nique played like a #1, but as you said, not as rounded as Pierce, nor as skilled IMO. And when it comes to crunch time, none of them are as well suited for scoring in the clutch as Pierce. Pretty much, you HAVE to be able to hit tough jumpshots in the clutch, and Pierce does that as well as anyone.

Scotty has the be the #2 all-time at the position for me. Lockdown defensive player who could guard 4 positions, long arms that really cut down on passing lanes, point guard skills in a 6'8" frame, excellent athleticism, great in the open court, respectable jumpshot, and I can't forget him grinding out that game 6 in Utah when his back was in horrible shape and it looked like he barely walk, much less run in a playoff game.

McGrady has the be the most frustrating player in NBA history. In his Toronto days he looked like he was going to become another Pippen-level defender, but it's like he stopped giving a about that side of the floor once he signed that huge deal in Orlando.

Can't argue this, in terms of skillset. But I still am not sure if he had what it really took to be a true #1. He still seemed mentally fragile at times (although thanks to Jordan was much tougher in that regards). Hard to forget him faking his migrane in G7 against Detroit...
