Tony played like garbage. He deserved to sit. Why would you put the guys in that dug you a hole and expect them to be better than the guys that brought you back? Tiago played a lot in the 2nd half because Pop waived the white flag.
in the league that would have stuck with his bench the entire 4th and overtime. This is the second time he put trust in them and they failed both times. Next time he better put in Tony and Tim at least. Tiago and Tim could have played while Ian and Dirk were on the court. Tim should have also been the one to inbound the pass at the end.
Also he chose to play Tiago 4:36 in the first half and 21+ in the second half. I just don't know how this man makes decisions. Has anyone noticed him flipping a coin on the sideline? like that can really throw the psyche off in a player. Tiago was probably thinking he lost the confidence in Pop again. He's never going play up to his potential with Pop pulling like this. An unstable environment isn't suitable for growth.

Like I said before, Pop doesn't give a about the team anymore. When teams go on a run, he takes no timeout. I believe Pop is the real underlying issue.
Because Tony is still the Spurs best player. He could pass it to a wide open Tiago on a pnr(perhaps he isn't so great at this either but Neal is awful at it). The change in momentum in the game is big, imo. Tim and Tony would come in to join this surge that the bench had started. Not to mention I would trust them not to make the stupid play and also potentially making a big play. What I don't like is a bunch of bench players trying to seal the deal.
If he was, he should of done that when he had his chance tonight. Not questioning Pop on this one.
Second guessing is a zero sum game. If he subs uted and we lost everyone would be on him for breaking up the unit that got them back into the game. I know this because I've been here long enough to see that , too.
Looks like he is in a lose-lose situation. I'm no Pop-apologist but you gotta stick with the guys who got you back in it. It takes guts to tell your star players that they sucked and won't be playing for the rest of the game. Hopefully, this game ignites the starters to perform better than the bench players consistently.
This.
Though I don't think anyone would have ed if he took Bonner out and replaced him with Tim on that final play in OT.
No way Pop leaves Manu out of the 4th and the OT![]()
Doesn't really take guts to have a tantrum mid-game and replace the starters then have another tantrum and not put in your best closers when the game is on the line. That's just Popovich being an idiot. And when a coach loses his cool and does stupid things regardless of how his players are playing (as Pop did tonight) bad stuff usually happens. And did tonight.
What would take actual guts is for Pop to start moving guys who aren't performing out of the starting lineup and putting in guys that are (like Splitter and Green for instance). Then increasing their minutes.
No questioning Pop? What did he do that was so great?
He tossed in the towel again and waived the white flag, bench picked up the towel and shoved it up his ass.
He did no coaching whatsoever after the point where he tossed in the towel. Didn't make any adjustments at all.
Pop made the right call leaving the guys who gave a tonight in.
I can ride with that for most of the 4th quarter, but not the whole 4th quarter.
He should have made an adjustment when Dallas made their run in the last 2 minutes of the 4th.
He did nothing. Let Dallas get back into it. I would have definitely subbed Parker back in for some better execution down the stretch.
I may have even called a timeout and gotten into the refs with about not calling any fouls on Dallas players.
Carlisle was being a dumbass by not pressuring Neal while he brought the ball up the entire 4th.
I'm fine with leaving them in through regulation but after they choke away a 7 point lead then an adjustment should have been made in OT and sub Parker in.
There are better ways to handle that situation then having a tantrum and then blowing the team's chances of winning the game in the closing seconds with another tantrum.
why was timmay even bothering warming up in OT, did he thought the games was going to 2OT? lol scrub
Pop should of put Duncan in for that OT for Bonner, Spurs really struggled executing the offense, and Bonner was useless in OT, when they got to predictable.
Even if they were playing well you can't play for 17 minutes straight. No one does that.
Pop does that. At least take Bonner out. A 6'10 shooter shouldn't play that many consecutive minutes.
Well leaving the bench in has failed the Spurs twice now. Next time I would hope for an adjustment.
But by golly he was mad! I'm so proud Pop took a STAND finally and SHOWED those ne'er do well starters just what what and how!
I hate Pop, but he did the right thing imo. He rode the team that got him there, that was the right thing to do.
The crew that got the Spurs back in the game deserved the chance to win it, which they came 1/10th of a second from doing.
Damn right they did! And Pop will reward them next game by not starting them and instead starting the same sob's that got the spurs into tonight's defecit! Cuz he's a great coach!
I thought it was the right move. I also think this is what the regular season is for. Sending messages, and letting players grow. Lest we forget Pop went desperate last playoffs and ended up playing Tiago who was clearly not ready. This is the time to put them through pressure packed situations and see who does what and how they respond.
What I'm not so sure about is if the starters will pick up the message. Tony has been playing well in general lately, so I understand he can have a bad game. Tim is just a little old and worm out. Guys like Blair and Richard though, I'm not convinced they care enough to pick up the slack. It was just two games ago that Pop pulled all the starters in the 3rd quarter at home against Atlanta to send this same kind of message, and nothing happened. Might be time to grab the hook and start sitting some. Some of the bench guys certainly look hungry and screaming for a bigger role.
