AUSTIN, Texas -- Before Texas can go about adding new names to the roster Wednesday, the Longhorns had to scrub one of the existing names off. Calvin Howell, a sop re defensive tackle, has decided to transfer, a source within the program told HornsNation. Howell was projected to contend for a starting spot in 2012 along with Ashton Dorsey, Chris Whaley, Brandon Moore and Desmond Jackson. Howell started seven games in 2011 and played in all 13 games. The 6-4, 290-pound sop re had 16 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, one caused fumble, one fumble recovery and three pressures. It is not yet known where Howell will transfer. He joins a long list of players who have left the program since August including Garrett Gilbert, Connor Wood, Darius White, Traylon Shead and Chris Jones. But Howell's situation is slightly different. While all of the other players left due to playing time, Howell was playing, a lot. He played in 27 games at Texas, starting the aforementioned seven. Texas is in a position to absorb the loss of Howell because defensive tackle might be the deepest position on the field. Texas brought in Brandon Moore from junior college to fill the tackle spot left open by the departure of Kheeston Randall. Whaley, who has moved from running back to end to tackle since he signed in 2009, is expected to be a force at defensive tackle. Dorsey started four games in 2011. Jackson is the strongest of the bunch and played in every game as a true freshman. Then there is incoming recruit Malcom Brown (Brenham, Texas/Brenham). Brown is rated the No. 2 tackle in the country by ESPNU. He is expected to come in and contend for playing time as a true freshman.

I want to urge everyone to head over to Burnt Orange Nation for Signing Day coverage. Ghost of Big Roy, GoHornsGo and myself have written recruiting spotlights for every member of the 2012 Class. http://www.burntorangenation.com/

I've been reading some of those, good work.
9am EST 8am CST DGB announces first. I know u can watch it on Espn3 website. Not sure if the Iphone can pick it up.
Nice and Thanks!
Somethin tells my gut that he is still Texas bound. Maybe im wrong but I dont see how he sees himself at Mizzou or Arky over Texas. Even his parents want Mack teaching and taking care of their son...regardless, i respect the kid for the way he handled his recruitment.
Addison to Oregon. It's official now. I think our Aggie friends will be hiding under a rock until Junior Days.
Has Landon Collins made it official to Alabama yet? Lots of talk of him possibly listening to mom and going to LSU after all.
Interesting by most accounts, Collins and his mother aren't very close. Allegedly Landon doesn't even live with her.
Why would we be hiding? He doesn't make or break our class.... Stole DT Edmund Ray from Mizzou earlier today. A much needed pickup.
, Mizzou fans could probably care less as long as they get DGB. I agree with not hiding cause every school will be losing somebody, but losing your best wr prospect at the last minute sucks and getting a fill in DT to take his spot does not help..
Roll eyes. Sure chief, Addison isn't a big loss.
I've seen some hints of that. All speculation right now though. Where did you see it Mex?

I was just told by a high school coach that a surprise commitment has signed with Texas.
We will not release the name until he sends the paperwork in.
where did i say that bill?
OrangeBloods has been hinting at DE Torshiro Davis as well.
You didn't. My apologies.
Hey we got a surprise commitment to worry about here.
TJ will reportedly sign with A&M at 11 a.m. this morning, but I'm still waiting on what Harris will do.
I saw that. Interesting.
I think it's definitely a committed player given the secrecy.
Yep, it's Davis. OrangeBloods is actually in Shreveport this morning. They got word last night that Davis is going to sign with Texas, but nobody truly knows what's going to happen. Maybe Davis is the same guy Hook 'Em 24/7 is referencing. What an epic turnaround that would be.
Yeah it's Torshiro Davis, huge news if he indeed faxed that LoI to Texas
