I doubt we can get him to come here. And this isn't China.. His family ain't ready to take on a bunch of Mexicans at the At&t center.
If people around the country only knew the celebrities who have homes in the San Antonio/Hill Country area, they would be completely lost for words. I live in the Hill Country just north of San Antonio and have several neighbors who have starred in a lot of movies(not pornos like in LA). Musicians live here and sometimes you go to a local club and get a treat when they show up and sit in on a jam session for the 1st hour of the night.
Not impressed with LA at all. I'll just visit my neighbors if I want to see a movie star or top chart singer.

SA is actually a great place to live. Isn't ridiculously heavy on the party scene, but it's still great. SA has a more rustic appeal to it.

Wasn't he literally minutes from being a Spur back in '06? IIRC, the Spurs had acquired him (or so they thought) in a trade involving Barry, but had just missed the deadline when filing the proper paperwork.
I'm glad RC dodged that bullet. Back in '06 Smith looked like a future all-star, and he easily had the talent to be that player. Six years in he is what he is; the potential is gone and there is no reason to get him now.

I would like to think that things would have turned out differently for J.R. had he joined the Spurs and spent some time being coached by San Antonio's staff and surrounded himself with players like Tim, Tony, and Manu.
The truth of the matter is that nobody will ever know - but with the way that Pop "falls for" certain players (i.e. Bonner, Finley, etc) and finds it hard to stray from that intrigue, one could surmise that he would still go after Smith if given the opportunity.

You are 100% correct and by no means did I say that I thought they actually "should" sign J.R. (in fact, in my opening post I stated that it may not be good timing because of the depth and youth that we currently have at the position) - but I read into your comment as there was no way possible that the Spurs would ever consider him. You didn't imply that the Spurs didn't "need" him. You stated that the "Spurs would not touch him". I think that most would believe that this would be the case because of his at ude and work ethic - but there was a time where he was MORE of a head case and the Spurs were not only considering him, but actually thought that they had acquired him. Apparently that is not what you meant, so I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Kandi and Bobby Jackson were mentioned to indicate how much time has passed since the Spurs really wanted JR. I understand that they wanted him at one time; I was on board with it. He's got every bit the talent and ability that Kobe Bryant has without the work ethic or the drive to improve, so everyone can understand why you'd be interested in getting a guy like that into your organization at 21. He turns 27 this year, and still has time to turn it around, so I'm probably a bit premature in suggesting that there's no way the Spurs would have him on the team. Yeah, I'm sure they're looking for adults, not someone who refuses to grow up. JR Smith is a complete waste of talent. He had enough to be the successor to Kobe, but he wasted it with at ude and laziness.
Fair enough. The optimist in me wants to believe that as he has gotten a bit older, he has matured (or will mature) as he begins to look back and reflect on his career. The timing part of it doesn't quite fit though, as both of us have alluded to in regards to the depth we have at his position. Ideally, I would like to see the Spurs bring him in and perhaps package a few players (perhaps Blair, Anderson, and Neal) for a decent 4/5. I don't expect that to happen, but I have seen crazier things.
I don't disagree with the remarks regarding his laziness and poor at ude - but I think it's way too early to call him a waste or refer to him in the past tense as if his career was over. He is only 26 years old and is entering what most players would call their prime. Perhaps he just needs the right tutelage or leadership to help right the ship? I'm not saying that he definitely will mature, because he may end up being a knucklehead his entire career/life - but we've seen plenty of examples of players (or people in general) who evolve into mature adults after some self-reflection.
I've never seen anyone this bad in the league this long reform in any meaningful way. You point out that he's only 26, but coming into the league at 18, he should be way further along than he is. If he comes back and plays, this will be his ninth season in the league.
To grow up requires an accountability that few want to lay at the feet of a professional athlete. Most won't tolerate it.
IMO of course the Spurs would want JR, but he's not coming here. Not because he's a knucklehead (although that plays a role) but you can tell that he wants to be in the spot light. He'll be a Knick IMO.
