Nitpick all you want but the two times Kobe lead a team to a championship he had a stacked team.

    Cheers, I'm off to sleep.

Plus you have to remember refs, DD.

Do you recall that shaq spent parts of series especially aganst Sacto, in the playoffs, on the bench in foul trouble? If Vlade, Polard heck even Rik smiths in the 2000 Finals all got shaq in foul trouble. what would a young Kareem do? No way if plays out the same could Kobe bail out a win against THOSe teams with Magic leading the way ...
I think you're romanticizing too many of those 80's teams (though they were no doubt great). There wasn't much defense in the 80's, while those 2000 and 2001 Lakers teams were lockdown on D.

Also, the 2001 playoff run was not watered down.
-Portland in Round 1 (who gave us in the WCF a year earlier and still had tons of talent)
-The upstart Kings with the toughest crowd
-On the road against the Spurs (best record in the league)
-The Sixers with the MVP, DPOY, 6MOY, and COY

Their only loss was in OT b/c they were rusty from having 9 days off

The 2001 Lakers were simply unfair.

Kobe Fox Horry were very good perimeter defenders, Fisher a great charge/flop guy. Shaq Horry good rim protectors ...Still dont see how they beat those Lakers teams. In 1980 Kareem was the MVP and Magic could still dunk and had two good knees. Norm Nixon was an all-star. Wilkes put up 40 in the clinching finals game. Outside of Shaq/Kobe the 1980 who Kareem and Magic cancel out wilkes and Nixon are better than every other Laker on the 2001 squad. Cooper would probaly be the next best bench player after horry

Kareem raped Wilt when the Bucks played the Lakers. Dominant my ass. Shaq just doesn't like Kareem. Kareem was definitely dominant.

Kareem was dominant that is why I say the 1980 squad beats any of the Shaq/Kobe ones ...

1982 Lakers squad is underrated. McAdoo was a force off the bench, on both ends of the court. First team to sweep two series heading into the finals, won the finals w/o home court advantage against a tough opponent.

On the offensive end, I can't argue that. Caps skyhook was almost unstoppable but on the defensive end, Shaq's 150 lb advantage would have given Cap fits. Good match-up though
