I have not seen it, or any Bootlegger in TX. Drachen, did you open the Black Metal?
Sorry I didn't come back and review.

I did open it up and as I was pouring it, I realized that it was the darkest beer I have ever poured (though not thick). I even got a little on my hand and it looked like I had just changed the oil on my car and got some dirty oil on me. Needless to say I was a little apprehensive due to the fact that many of the dark beers I have drank have been bitter and since this was substantially darker I was thinking that I may be overwhelmed by the bitterness. Nope. It wasn't bitter at all. It kinda tasted like toasted caramel, bit of chocolate, and some leathery aroma/taste. I liked it a lot and I would absolutely recommend it.

Is it just me, or do those melted tops annoy the outta anyone else? I mean, they LOOK cool and all, but opening my Abyss was a pain in my ass.

By tha by, anyone tried Shiner's new PA, Wild Hare? I actually enjoyed it, and I'm not much of a pale ale fan either.

they are the best option for long term storage. the wax keeps any oxidation from occurring.

That makes sense. I just felt like an asshole having to YouTube the best/easiest way to open it.

I usually use the can opener end of one of these to scrape it off if it's really flaky...

My bottle of Stoic was a nightmare. I have no problems letting the other one sit for a while if it's the same

    ?

Am I the only one that doesn't have any problems with them? I just pop the cap off like any other beer, yeah there's some wax in between but it opens just like the other ones.. you don't really need to scrape anything.

Finished my Parabola, and was amazed. Quite a great beer. I am actively seeking one of those "brisket-like" brews that bb and lee were conversing about.

It was good, but unfortunately I only got to enjoy Flying Saucer, but boy do they need to fix a lot of things..
They have learn how to pour a beer.. I would always hope they would actually give my beer head, and it became funny when two of us would order the same beer and only one of us had head .

The wait staff is also not very knowledgeable. In one occasion I ordered the Hop Head Flight and the girl comes back and tells me she can't find that beer. -_- and we can't forget the prices, wow.. some of the beers are very overpriced.

I do wish I would have gone to Freetail, but my brother thought Flying Saucer was closer, and I had already made plans for the Saucer the day after.
As far as stores, I visited the Alon Market and I think they're just as good as the Central Market or even better as far as selection.. I do wish I would have visited the Gabriel's with the "best" selection in SA.

Other than that, just visited the usual places I visited to eat, it was a good trip, I just have to make sure and come back to enjoy the rest of the places I planned to visit.

If it's anything like the Gabriel's outlet in San Marcos they don't have much of note outside of what you would find at Central Market. Freetail has a bottle shop now fyi.

According to BA it's the best selection in San Antonio, and they even have a "secret stash"..

it's supposed to be the one by Freetail..

I would do it, but I don't necessarily agree with most of them.. it's really mixed opinions on some of them.. I bet someone has recommended Miller.

If I need opinions on beers, always check Beer Advocate.

BTW do any of you use Untappd?

I use this little app to keep track of beers I've had... obviously a little late since I don't even know how many I've had but it's nice to keep track of the recent ones.

It also "recommends" beers, gives "achievements" stuff like that.. and you can rate beers, but I wouldn't even look at the average on beers. There's excellent beers being rated 3 out of 5

I think I am just a little spoiled by some of the places here in Austin, and out of the state. All I mostly think of when I go to places in Texas is how limited the TABC makes them :/

Beer Advocate is a crutch for me anytime I see something I am not familiar with.

I believe I went to a Central Market in Austin, and it was better than Alon, Central, and Whole Foods in San Antonio.. So yeah you're lucky.

I'm enjoying Real Ale's 15th Anniversary Ale as we speak... really tasty.. and a homebrew next.

New brewery is going to launch soon.... http://www.texasbigbeer.com/

It's by Buna, TX.. very close to where I am, it looks like the guy makes very strong ales... I believe his 3 right now are all above 10%.. which I like, but since I have lived in the Beaumont area.. I'm optimistic.

I'm going to have to give one of these beers a try to see if this guy really knows beer.. I don't trust white people around that area most of them are racist and rednecks tbh..

Has anybody tried the Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout? Picked up a bottle and it is pretty damn good.
Had to search this thread to see if anyone had mentioned it before. Just finished mine - this is an excellent stout, one of the best I've tried.
