any parent who says they don't believe in spanking never had to use it or never had to of had it done to them

all these bull studies saying it causes emotional problems. The kids with inherent emotional problems are more likely to be spanked because they already act out naturally! Some kids NEED a spanking because they don't give a about what there parents have to say or they'r enot scared of having their things taken away/grounded

especially sick of seeing these self righteous pricks on news shows recenty talking about it

That's not a method of teaching anybody anything?

Why are we not spanking adults who are not behaving well?
    Because they will give back?

I have never spanked my daughter, she is almost 7. Have never felt the need to. It was never too much of a deterrent for me when I was a kid.

Spanking has its place; the problem is the vast majority of parents do it as a straight up deterrent for just about anything, rather than as a grievous last measurement.

If you can't convince your kid of the problem with what they're doing, maybe you're just being a lazy piece of parent.

My eight year old boy is easy to raise. Caring, straight A's, good in karate, loves tennis and never been spanked; or even threatened with it. Beating the crap out of kid just proves the larger can push around the smaller.

Spanking is just like a gun. Not everyone knows how to use it. But you shouldn't be able to take it away from those that are responsible with it.

Actually, I thought it was a pretty reasonable metaphor.

Every kid is different..some need spanking some don't. Does it make you a better parent if your kid doesn't need it?...god I hope you're not that ignorant.

I've spanked each of my kids maybe a couple of times. I can't say it was the absolutely only solution to the problem, as I have handled more problems just as effectively using other methods. I know for sure though, that it had a much longer lasting effect on me than on them.

My mom was a strict disciplinarian, who spanked, slapped, hit and screamed all the time, for any infraction, including ones I wasn't guilty of. Did it hurt me in the long run? Nah, I don't think so, but I'm pretty sure it didn't help me either.

I agree with the overall sentiment, but saying some kids need spanking is just silly.

    This is a touchy issue.

The only time I spank my kids is if they won't listen to my warnings if they try to do something dangerous. If my kids are running into the street after I tell them to stay in the yard, yes... I feel it deserves a spanking. It is better than getting hit by a car.

If the kids don't want to go to sleep, I don't really think that is a reason to spank them.

An actual fix would be to say some parents need to hit something, and it's often a kid.

Hitting a person that trust you implicitly, and is the most vulnerable and most destroyed by being hit, seems like a bad idea.

I still have a vivid memory of my mom spanking me inside of Piggly Wiggly, right there in the aisle. Let's just say it never happened again.

My mom meant business, all she had to do was raise her hand and we would behave.
