Both teams got a lot worse, would be interesting.
Now that the Clipps are back to reality and the Lakers are in their rightful place - perched on top of the Pacific Division - it's time for the Lakers to exact some revenge against the Mavs.
If the standings hold, Kobe v. Dirk II - Lakers in 5.

Yeah we suck ass as of late so it wouldn't really be much of an accomplishment, you aren't really going out on a limb here or anything. Last year, Dirk was able to shoulder the load on offense while having Tyson anchor the defense to have his back at the other end. This year, we have neither such luxury. A mavs team with Jason Terry as it's second option and 43 year old Vince carter as its only other offensive weapon, and no Tyson, isn't going anywhere without another historic year out of Dirk, which so far he has been unable to reproduce.
Not really. I expected the Lakers' offense to suck. Why? MB is no offensive genius and the Lakers needed to unlearn over a decade of the triangle. Meanwhile, they are steadily making improvements offensively.
The constant has been their defense. They have been top 5 all year. Until they fully get their offense together, defense will be their calling card.
Look at yesterday's game v. Heat. Wade had 16 pts on 17 shots. LBJ had 25 pts on 26 shots. Why? Defense. It's what's gonna carry us in the offs. Last year they didn't play defense and got swept. That won't happen this year no matter who we play.
Translation: one and done.![]()
They are 50-50. No one knows who will win the series in the playoffs.
I don't like our perimeter defense so far, any team that's good at shooting the 3ball gives us a lot of trouble. In the inside, Bynum & Gasol could contend with any front court in the NBA.
Tough series to call, tbh. Would be much easier if Odom would be playing like he can play with the Mavs, IMO
Not tough to me. The Lakers went to 3 straight Finals. Each of those 3 seasons included over 100 games. They ran out of gas and faced a well coached, hungry Mav team that took full advantage.
This year we're healthy. The Mavs have no one to deal with Bynum. Kobe is healthy. And they are playing defense this year. Not to mention the Lakers will play the Mavs with a huge chip on their shoulder.
Like I said, Lakers in 5 - tops.
Their perimeter defense is mediocre. However, I do expect a marked improvement from their 2011 playoff showing. It's about defensive effort. MB, to his credit, is bringing that out of them.
Won't happen
Mavs are a bottom feeder & Lakers aren't a #1-3 seed. Lakers will probably play (lose to) a Clippers or Grizzlies in the 1st Round
Mavs beat the Lakers, Lakers beat the Spurs, Spurs beat the Mavs. That's how it goes.
- that's funny. But are you guys getting past the Hype? Doubtful.

Lakers could beat either of the Mavs or Spurs this year, but they'll get reamed by basically everyone else in the WC.
Mavs in 6 easily even without HCA.
the Mavs.
I want the opportunity to get even with Chandler.
Only Sisies and Gigolos play "I want the opportunity" card.

I have yet to see Kobe or Gasol win a playoff game against Dirk... Just saying!

Lakers in 7. JJ not around to bynum anymore.
Lakers with the ball, down by 1, Dallas triple teams Kobe and forces a kickout to Gasol, STEAL BY LAMAR ODOM... Odom turns and alley oops to Andrew Bynum! Lakers win!!!!

...Kobe's bodyguard (that cute guy) runs out to protect Kobe in the ensuing melee, Odom overcome with grief at having nearly beaten the ones he loves grab's the bodyguard's piece (not that piece, Lefty), points it at Cuban's head and rearranges his appearance.
