Lol. When he buried that 19 footer to send the game into overtime, I bet he broke the enlarged hearts of Spurs nation so desperate for a Lakers loss.

I didn't even watch overtime. What for? 5 minutes of formality. Nothing more. The jaw was jutting and I'm 100% certain Kobe closed out the PissedOns like the ninja assassin he is with 8 to 10 overtime points.

    We're back, baby.

Mr 8 for 26 was at it again blowing the bigger shot when it counted but that is to be expected as the law of averages and his true non prominence as a clutch shooter is analyzed by experts...

    http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/pos...in-crunch-time

No matter how you define crunch time -- from the last five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime to the last 24 seconds -- and no matter how you define production -- field goal percentage, offensive efficiency, David Berri's Wins Produced, the results tell the same story: Bryant is about as likely to hit the big shot as any player.

ESPN Stats & Information's Alok Pattani dug through 15 years of NBA data (see table below) -- Bryant's entire career, regular season and playoffs -- and found that Bryant has attempted 115 shots in the final 24 seconds of a game in which the Lakers were tied or trailed by two or fewer points. He connected on 36, and missed 79 times.

One shot for all the cookies. And the NBA is nearly unanimous that this is the guy to take it, even though he has more than twice as many misses as makes?

Bryant's clutchness continues to be over ranked time and time agaiin - fact he is just shoots so much.

For the real Mr. Clutch - over an extened time in the NBA that would be Manu Ginobili http://www.nba.com/2009/news/feature...ame/index.html

Not only is Ginobili the new Batman, he's also Mr. Clutch. His shooting percentage isn't that great, but he's at the top of the list because he gets to the line often and makes his free throws when he does. The same goes for Maggette.

You might notice that every player in the top 10 is in the Western Conference. You also might notice that there's no Bryant, James, Wade or Carmelo Anthony in the top 10. They're a little further down the list. James ranks 12th, Anthony ranks 22nd, Wade ranks 28th and Bryant ranks 38th.

That is about right when the facts are looked at Mr. Bryant is and has been over-ranked in clutchness for years and years when in fact he is just a great player who is mainly a gunner who just shoots too much when it counts and his over-inflated reputation is more on the volume of his shots than actual production. No surprise here as he is also only 17th all time in PER so why he should be reallly be more efficient or truly effective when it matters? http://www.basketball-reference.com/...er_career.html

Both dumb and smart at the same time. He knew if he didn't take the shot right away, the Pistons were going to double hard and he wouldn't get a clean look off. The way he shot it, though he wasn't square, he got a relatively open look. Plus, shooting it right away gave them a chance to get another shot attempt up, which they did. Looked like a stupid shot unless you take those things into consideration.

That's still a stupid shot. If nothing else, it's stupid because that's the best shot he could get. If that's the option, wait for the double and pass it to an open teammate, especially when you have two bigs who have combined for 70% shooting for the game.

I agree it was a stupid shot, but I understand the reasoning. The part about having two bigs combining for 70% shooting for the game means very little considering they were down by 3 points and needed a 3 pointer just to tie.
