Expecting that you're going to get anything other than injury-plagued mediocrity from Manu at this stage in his career is similar to the expectation that turds such as Blair, Bonner and RJ can produce anything other than failure in the PO.
Not to pull an ElNono but even if Manu has earned the label of "injury-plagued", he's been one of the best players in the NBA this year when healthy .. hardly mediocrity, tbh.

You had me at Bryant but then lost me at Bynum.
Then apparently you haven't seen too many Lakers games. Damn near every time I watch them, he has at least one scare with his knee. But the vast majority of the time, he plays through it. Or, he'll exit briefly, then return. And this is a young guy, who's had serious work done on his knees. But he knows it's par for the course. So he can either suck it up and keep playing, or constantly go in and out, never really getting into game shape/rhythm.

Pop on Manu: "He just tightened up."

That was the report on Kawhi and he missed something like ten days of action, IIRC.
That's what Sean said. The word tightened seems kind of odd.

Tbh, I wouldn't advise Manu to follow what Bynum does with regards to injury. He's played more than 55 games in a season exactly once in the last four seasons -- 65 in '09-10. Manu has played less than 65 games only once in his career.

Yes, he still has the ability to shine on occasion. It's the unreliable "on occasion" part that's mediocre. What good is a SuperManu who can't stay healthy?

It's a very poor bet to think that he's not going to be injured in the playoffs.

I'm not talking about playing through a severe injury that needs surgery immediately. I'm talking about playing through some discomfort. He needs to accept that he's injury prone and aging and that it's bound to happen. It doesn't mean he needs to miss games every time it does though.

I noticed Manu favor his leg slightly after a breakaway, touchdown pass for the easy score. It almost looked to me like he pulled a quad sprinting down court prior to the basket. Not sure if that's when he pulled it but if it is, that's an indication of not being properly stretched out and possibly not in top shape.

it there a worse analogy in sports than 'the sky is falling'?

you see, in sports, all but one team fails every year: the sky falls for 29 teams in the NBA every year, and much of the time, for many of the teams, it never even gets put back up enough to really fall again. but in the fable, it's supposed to represent the end of the world, but the world doesn't actually end, the sky never actually falls, and the people who are afraid of it are just hysterical idiots.

tbh it's the hysterical idiots who think the Spurs are just fine putting any eggs in the Manu basket

it's a mild quad strain... yet some people suggest he should retire, but you don't see the 'sky is falling' overreaction...

And you can call Pop hysterical idiot or whatever, who cares?

I don't see any twitter/spurs.com update saying that Manu suffered a strain. Source?

Also, just FYI, you shouldn't sound so nonchalant about a strain. Strains are bad news. Ideally, you'd hope that Manu just suffered a bruise.

A grade 1 strain can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks to fully heal.

As sad as it is for me to say Manu may have to think about retiring too. His body can't even last a few games anymore without him getting another serious injury.

From what I heard, it was just tightening -- Manu isn't quite adjusted to the pace of game play yet so he cramped/tightened up. He's not expected to miss any time, but that will be confirmed tomorrow.
