tbh sand bass are the with an ultra light reel and 6lb test. just throw that roadrunner, rooster tail, crappie jig, one of those small spinners with a grub on it, etc it doesn't really matter and you get one like every other cast imho.

When the sandies slow down, go deeper for these guys:

Use a heavier jig head, bounce it off the bottom.

Or you could abandon the tributaries and come to the salt like me (yeah it's really me, note the chubby fingers and don't abuse the pic).

I've never seen one, had no idea what it was, and that's an "ok" redfish. I've caught reds that could eat that one sideways.

ya DMC i wish i could just hop in my boat and head to the coast but unfortunately i don't have access to either..right now i am bank fishing so i'm limited to sandbass running up the creeks....btw nice fish.

Edit: that biggest crappie looks almost 14 inches..nice. reminds me of a mess of crappie i caught last year, biggest one on the right was 14 or 15 inches too. i don't usually fish for them so it was kind of new to me.

That one I didn't touch, just used hookouts and off she went.

Here's a decent one, not my biggest but close.

I see a bunch of sammiches.

Last year I got into some on Colorado Bend that were 16", smallest was 14" and I limited in 2 hours with a bunch of freshwater drum and some whites mixed in. They were the biggest crappie I have ever seen, and I caught them all standing in one place, on a peninsula with my back to the wind so I could cast a long distance with a light lure. I had people on both sides of me catching nothing. I had to hump those fish out about 3 miles to my truck, I was so far up the river.

damn sons, i'm no expert crappie fisher by any means but any time you're catching an abundance and they're all over 14 you've done good tbh. That picture is actually the first and only time I've ever fished for crappie tbh, usually stick to largemouth bass during the summer months. I'm not an expert yet just go when i can tbh, with graduation looming and some free time coming I definitely plan to become one though.

well i take that back, i AM an expert at a texas rigged worm in the summer months, traditionally the main time i get to fish

never use minnows tbh, too much hassle. they were mostly caught on white roadrunners and white johnson beetle, water was muddy from all the rain.

Careful, crappie are one of the most addictive fish in the water. Many a deep sea or big bass man has hung it all up to chase those things. Cool thing is you can get a small pond buster boat or something like that and find some brushpiles and wear them dudes out. It's not hard. Cedar Creek up there has some serious slabs under the docs.

I use minnows if I am fishing under lights. Last year 4 of us boated 100 keepers (and twice as many undersized) in 4 hours under lights with minnows, we just keep using them until they won't stay on a hook. Crappie aren't sporty anyhow, but damn they eat good.

That is quite a hall but do you actually eat fresh water bass? Large mouth fresh water bass in So Cal taste terrible…Ocean sand bass are a different story…They probably are so delicious because I catch them in the pristine Santa Monica Bay…

Hard to tell from the picture but this is an 8' long sailfish going vertical from a few weeks ago in Palm Beach...on 20# standup gear...
