This time of year try copper penny gulp shrimp under a popping cork or mansfield mauler. Also check out the Browns big eyes and (maybe root beer chartreuse) and bottom bump em on a 1/16 oz or 1/8 ounce jig head. Wind is a this time of year. Try to find a shoreline getting beat by the wind and wade it...bait will pile up on the windward side of the spoil islands in the high winds and the fish will follow them...maybe try going in on the island side and fishing the shamrock cove area...

This...are you limited to shore lines or do you have a boat? If you can get into the bays, the mid bay reefs in Aransas almost always hold a good amount of trout. Focus on ambush points (points where water is moving past a cover, trout will be stacked up nailing bait getting pushed around by the wind and current)and toss either the Gulp like CC described, or live shrimp and you should do well. If you can get decent sized live shrimp, free spool them in about 3' of water...almost always do well like this.

Check out http://www.2coolfishing.com/ttmbforum/index.php for a plethora of what is going on in the fishing world currently. Tons of decent people there sharing reports and strat info.

If you're bank fishing sheepshead are running through Packery channel about every hour to hour and half. Most are 18-22 inches. Live shrimp on a double hooked drop rig works great.

Oversize black drum are biting on sealice at the humble channel.

Slot black drum are schooling near shamrock cove where CC mentioned. You can actually fish Wilsons cut on foot and hit the mouth about a mile down. Reds and trout are biting on live shrimp at the mouth there at Shamrock and wilsons cut. I recommend going during the week because on the weekend that area is slammed with boats and kayakers. There are a ton of sting rays in the area so if you wade out wear boots. Also that is a hot spot for vehicle break ins.

Old railroad tracks in Flour Bluff are good for flounder using speck rigs. Fish the floor there. I do not recommend wading out there. Its too muddy and you just sink right in. Fish off the tracks about half way down.

Nueces bay is good on trout in the back bays and path leading to the river that travels down to labonte park. Watch out for the shallows if you're on a boat.

Lots of great fishing right now and the winds have finally backed off. It was unbearable for the last week and a half.

Seems like the oversized drum have been big this time of year. Wen't a couple weeks ago to baffin and were catching some big ones near the landcut, as well as some nice size reds.

I don't recommend eating oversize drum. I've had more than a few guides tell me they're high in mercury. But I'm no expert. Nice pull.

Where specifically did you catch them and with what bait.

Any fly fishermen on Spurstalk. Where do you go for trout? What's the closest decent trout river if you're from Texas?

Just check the TPW website for trout release areas and dates. The Guadalupe used to have some really good trout but I think they all got killed two summers ago but they have restocked and they are coming back.

If you are wanting serious trout fisheries Arkansas is probably the closest.

I've been fishing my guts out the last few weeks in Utah. Our rivers are flowing clear and low, we're getting BWO hatches during the day, and the temps are getting into the 70's. The Walley are about to start spawning in a few lakes around Salt Lake City, and the Large Mouth Bass are hitting big cray-fish patterns in Utah Lake. Caught this guy in the middle of February:

The next 4 to 6 weeks are going to be absurd in Utah for warm water species, and the Trout fishing is great right now, but will taper off as run-off blows the rivers out. All in all, this is a great time to be amongst the Mormons.

Come to Utah, I'll put you in my second pontoon boat and we'll slaughter Walley and LMB on the fly. And I'll put you on some 30"+ 8-15 lb carp that are more than willing to scarf a fly:
