Just found out that they are outlawing the T12 fluorescents and I'm going to have to replace all the fixtures in my office and shop because I won't be able to buy the bulbs anymore...

Ahh read up on it a little...it's the magnetic ballast that these use that is driving the ban.
Fixtures should be fine. Just new electronic ballasts and the energy saving flourescents, like the 34W F40T12 that work with them. Doesn't sound like you'll have to replace them all at the same time.

By the time you buy ballasts and bulbs individually it's usually just cheaper to buy the fixture.

Replace the ballast and you should get your return on investment in about 7 years.

    Cheers.

That would be a hate crime using a noose. Just ask those in Jena.

I get the humor but in this case they just outlawed my light fixtures to force me to buy new ones that are more "energy efficient". It's not that big a deal if it's a couple but make that X20 and it's a load of money.

Hardly a crime to equate with an international drug dealer and murderer.

Isn't there some type of a grandfather clause? I could see not having the option to buy the same type of fixtures, but to force you to replace them isn't right.

I know... Lets tear down all houses built by 1970 code or earlier, unless the owners will pay to bring them to to the most recent code, and retrofit every time there is a code change.

    Isn't that a similar thing?

in other words, the law should gently encourage people to swap out ballasts, or whatever? all current possessors being grandfathered out, as you suggest...

All I know is that those bulbs that are supposed to last for thousands of hours are BS. They still burn out just like the others.

Those curly q fluorescents are fine if you leave them on all the time. It's turning them off and on (like most people do with lights) that kill them.
