Who would you take in their primes?

Both have very similar careers while possessing to different types of styles. Dirk was immensely better at shooting from outside, while Duncan slightly gets the edge inside.

In terms of defense and rebounding it's just about a push but i give a slight edge to Duncan due to him being marginally better at off ball help defense. Leadership definitely goes to Dirk since teammates have said they just like playing around him more and you don't hear that with Duncan's teammates.

After all this considered I'd probably take Dirk and rate him as the best PF ever with Duncan at #2. What do you guys think?

Seriously though, in his prime, I might take Dirk over any power forward not named Duncan. Chuckwagon is close but I'd take Dirk, tbh.

Duncan had/has a way better post game. I do give Dirk credit for improving on his, but still. Duncan just has more moves than any other player in history. And it's not like Dirk is incapable of it; he just has a different style. He prefers to shoot jumpers, therefore he has more practice with jumpers, therefore he is better at jumpers. The post game is secondary for him. A similar statement can be made about Duncan. He has the potential to be a great outside shooter if he cared to be, but he prefers to play in the post (a wise decision). He chooses to spend 90% of his practice time in the post, therefore he is better in the post than anyone else. Skills are simply the embodiment of sensory-motor experience. One's body type also plays a role in determining skills too, though.

    Anyway, my rankings are:

    1. Duncan
    2. Malone
    3. Garnett
    4. Nowitzki
    5. Pet

Dirk is great, but Dunca is greater. Dirk vs Garnett is a debate but this is really not that close.

Any non-Mavericks fan is taking Duncan pretty easily...but I agree with timvp...Dirk would be hard to pass up behind him. Dirk was just unfortunate to land in Dallas where they didn't have a clue how to build a team around him until recently.

I take Dirk over Malone, Garnett or any other PF.

Both great players, but Dirk's game was/is a lot more exciting than Duncan's.
