Which is why Beast will likely be gone by the 2012 NBA Draft.

    Some random Diaw thoughts:

-Congrats to Bruno for the signing of Diaw. He was pimping Diaw before he blew up with the Suns (figuratively not literally) while I may or may not have said he sucked

-Even if Diaw is great the rest of the way, do you give him a long-term contract? I'd hesitate because of the cap room the Spurs can open and I'm not sure that I trust him to stay in shape. He sure didn't last time.

-Diaw kinda reminds me of Horry because they are both former perimeter players who eventually moved to power forward. Horry was a point forward in college and even got compared to Magic Johnson at times. Diaw was a giant point guard in Europe.

-I'm really interested to see if Pop will be able to live with Diaw passing up open shots. It's going to happen because Diaw has always done that. Pop has always hated it. It's going to be interesting to see who wins that battle of wills.

-Warning to Spurs fans: You will probably hate Diaw at first. He's definitely an acquired taste as a basketball player. His best traits are his passing and smarts ... and that takes a while to shine through.

I'm not convinced of the fit but I'm excited to see if it will work
A few were wondering what number he might wear. I suspect he wears 33.

I definitely wouldn't give him a long term contract, but I'd strongly consider bringing him back. Because this is a contending team and because his best friend is on the team, I'm not concerned about him being motivated, not just now, while he's playing for a contract, but even if he were to be re-signed. I just wouldn't want to potentially take them out of the running for a significant player in '13. He's not good enough that you take away that opportunity.

What they can and probably will look to do, because he more than likely will want to stay and because he probably will be a good fit, is re-sign him to a 1 year contract. They can tell him that they want to keep their options open beyond that, but if he has a strong season and re-builds his value, that they'll strongly consider signing him long term.

With limited flexibility and trade assets Spurs brought in Jack, Patty Mills and Diaw. This would be hailed as a winning off season, what more in season?

I think Diaw will fit in fairly well because of his team first mentality. His passing on the offensive end will allow different looks, sticking him in a lineup of Duncan, TP, Manu, Jack will be versatile on both sides of the ball.

    I say 33.

You down for a prop bet?

No, I changed it. I agree.

23 isn't going to happen, because Dawson hasn't been waived yet. He may have went with 33 anyway.

As it is right now, I think the second team is better offensively than the first team.

1st: Parker, Green, Leonard, Duncan, Blair

2nd: Neal, Manu, Jackson, Diaw, Splitter

I don't think the second team is a slouch on defense either.

All I know is if Pop takes away Splitter's minutes for Diaw, ST (myself included) will explode.

Spurs won't have Bird rights on Diaw and would have to sign him using an exception or cap space, if they have any. Assuming that TD comes back for 10M+, then the Spurs will either have the MLE or a chunk of cap space slightly larger than the MLE. If they pursue Lorbek, it's doubtful that they could offer Diaw enough to keep him.

I don't think he stays beyond this season, but there are worse things than having a talented player on a cheap, short-term deal who is trying to rehabilitate his market value.

I still don't like what hypocritically starting Boris would do to team Morale when you remove a third year spur from the starting lineup for a guy on a twenty game contract

Splitter's minutes could go down in the playoffs, but it won't be because of Diaw.

I care about winning, CBF & right now Blair isn't cutting it. I can understand more of what you say if this was a vet, but it's a young player and they aren't guaranteed minutes at all on le or bust teams.

We all know Pop is starting Blair so he won't sulk on the bench and implode so he's just doing it for depth. With Diaw here, hopefully that means Blair goes back to the bench and gets traded or something next year. Pop usually sees how Blair is doing in the first 10 minutes of the game and might not even play again until the second half. But with Bonner out and Splitter hurting, it's the sad truth that Blair will continue to start.

I don't think Diaw should get the starting spot right away, yet it shouldn't take him more than a few games to get that spot; Blair's style is too out of control for the playoffs.

Minutes in the playoffs should be this:
    Duncan 35-37 MPG
    Diaw 20-25 MPG
    Splitter 25-30 MPG
    Bonner 8-12MPG

Unfortunately, knowing Pop, they'll likely be this:
    Duncan 35-37MPG
    Diaw 20-25MPG
    Bonner 18-22MPG
    Splitter 15-18MPG

    ......

Pipe dream signings for the Spurs with SJax, Mills and Diaw!

Spurs fans will love his high Bball IQ, I still question his lack of selfishness and hope he can get in shape quickly because he was so fat at one point.

But playing for a crappy team such as the Bobacts and eating like crazy in South West of France (food notorious known to be rich, that's where they produce Foie Gras) in Bordeaux during the lockout surely didn't help.

I think playing with one of your best friends and one of the best organization in Sports history help to get motivated. I think we can hopefully trust his IQ to make the right decision and get fit quickly!

We staaaaaaaaacked! Let the championship campaign begin.
