7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, 2 important 3's and a +19 and you want a D!? -you certainly are the most biased poster on the site.
I don't agree with Manu's B-:
He shot 2-5 treys, grabbed 7 rebound, dished 7 assists, had 2 steals, a block and a +19.
Also, when he got paired with Nowitzky he played outstanding defense.
B- just seems too low in my opinion.
Thanks for the writeup, Timvp!

'Twas a fun game...very promising going forward.
These guys are good.
Blair did a decent job on Nowitzki, but Dirk will always be able to shoot over him. At least Blair forced him into some tough shots.
I agree that Manu looked better on defense than in the previous games. As for Jackson, it's as he wants to prove to the whole basketball world that he can be a good teamplayer. His court vision and patience on offense have been nothing but impressive so far.
i wonder how this team plays if run tmc or suns run n gun system with elite defense during important stretches of the game....
So with Dallas at full strength, and missing Tony and Tiago, and Duncan and Neal turning in sub-par performances (though I'd grade him higher than a D)... we still got the W over the defending champs, who are playing a lot better after a shaky start. Impressive.
Random note: Kidd seems like the weakest perimeter defender in the league right now. Just soooo slow.

they only good when kidd starts hitting shots from the outside, other then that they are a one trick pony
Agreed. Another big part, and it's somewhat synonymous, is the "knowledge of Pop". Jackson knows what to expect. He knows the pecking order and is a willing participant.
Diaw has TP as a buffer/tutor to speed up his learning curve. Don't think over the years he hasn't heard everything about Pop from his best friend.
Totally agree! WOW!
We out-rebounded a bigger front line by 54-34. And that led to domination in points in the paint. It was amazing to see the crowd of Spurs under the basket fighting for rebounds. We were getting second shots all night. And the rebounds weren't all coming from bigs like Duncan and Blair.
It's great to see the SFs like Jax and Kwahi sticking their noses into the paint and battling the bigger men. If that keeps up--and it will because that toughness is their trademark--then we are going to be tougher on defense and offense.
Add in the SGs--Green and Manu and let's not forget Neal--who usually get their share of rebounds and you have a team that is going to be ferocious on the boards. You won't lose many games if you out-rebound a team by 20.
Damn, this season could get to be fun.
One of the few times I disagree with you TIMVP, I think Duncan played alot better than you last night. Didnt shoot too well but did a ton of grunt work to my eyes. One other thing, SJ is the kind of player that scares the crap out of the opposition; he can hit his shots, get real physical in defense and there is always that risk he might just punch you in the face.
I think you need to re-watch the game and double check your grades.
Diaw should be sore today.
He looks puffy. Imo its usually the 2nd game the shape factor shows. I remain politely skeptical of what he will give us until I see leaner. If that does happen, I would love him to take Bonners spot. He gives us so much more at that spot. Then Bonner could take on his real role as a marksman if teams move to clog the lane or get sluggish against us on the perimeter. Bonner did not have to play a game he cant against Dallas.
manu is very difficult to grade when he plays this way. He opens things up with some great passes, he changes the game so he has a tremendous impact. But with this we will also witness some very bad passes and sloppy ball handling.
They were missing Haywood and Delonte West. Odom didn't play but I don't know if it was because of injuries or not.
The stat I like the most was points in the paint: Spurs 50, Mavs 16.
So nice to see crybaby pussy I dont' wanna play nomore dirk again, it's been awhile. And Danny Green made that punk mother er jt look like a fool trying to guard him.
Three, once Mills is on board. The Aussie NT apparently runs a lot of Spurs sets under Brett Brown.
? Haywood (a HUGE part of our defense/rebounding) was out. We got killed on the boards and spurs shot uncontested layups all game long.
Delonte West, our 2nd best perimeter defender and only slasher was out as well. Dude has been solid all year. Mavs got murdered, can't spin that but they weren't at full strength. Good win for y'all tho without Parker
While he has been dog this year, his size would've at least challenged SA in the lane somewhat and maybe snatch a few rebounds.
I think he was benched tho after that 1 point 1 rebound game against LA
May be the first and only time we ever see the words Bonner and vengeance in the same sentence
Sometimes taking shots you know you'll probably miss can be a good strategy if you get the rebound.
Thanks Kobe.
This is what I keep telling people that are so worried about the size deficiencies. The whole team if full of good rebounding players. This makes up for a lot that is lost in a lack of size. And speaking of size...it's not like the Spurs are super small like they have been in the past. The biggest issue in past seasons is that there was no one to guard the paint when Duncan went to the bench. Splitter has solved that problem. The Spurs can keep a 7 footer on the floor to patrol the paint at all times now. That's something we haven't been able to say in a long, long time. Couple that with the depth and length they now possess on the perimeter and much of the size issues are canceled out.
