I'm talking after taxes on the cash option. My understanding of cash option is that it boils down to about 60% of the number listed after taxes. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't invest in the lottery often, mainly because I'm not clear on how all the games work. Is Mega Millions just a straightforward, pick 6 numbers game or does it involve bonus numbers or multipliers or power balls etc. to choose? You choose 5 numbers from the same bank of numbers. Then 1 number (mega ball) in an independent set of numbers. Or you can just go up to the counter and ask for a quick pick cash value option mega millions ticket and it will automatically pick your numbers. Actually, the quick picks win most of the time...but that's probably because most people go that route.
