Maybe Splitter ain't ready. You gotta figure Pop knows him better than anybody and by now he would be playing him major minutes.

Take PJ with Bynum for instance. For at least 2 years he kept starting Kwame over Bynum - when millions of Laker fans pined for PJ to stop the madness. Maybe Bynum wasn't ready. Look at him now.

PJ knew what he was doing. So does Pop.
Disagree, tbh. Different situations. The Lakers were a CLEAR non-contender those years Kwame was on the team...they were a fringe playoff team at best.

San Antonio has a core that's on their last compe ive legs, and if they started Duncan and Splitter together they WOULD be a contender, imo. As they are currently coached and subs uted they're just a pretender, wasting the last decent years of Duncan and Ginobili.

I hear ya but still disagree somewhat. The Spurs haven't been contenders since 2005 tbh. They got lucky when Horry roughed up some key Sun players in '07. Haven't done anything since to warrant being called a contender. Perennially winning a ton of RS games is fool's gold to me.

Contender or not, coaches will play his best players (at least theoretically) if they want to win. I'm trusting Pop if I'm a Spur fan. Besides, if Splitter starts, either Bynum or Pau would put him in foul trouble. Then you are back to playing Blair out of position anyway. At least Splitter would be able to have favorable matchups against 2nd unit players - which will build his confidence.

Pop knows what he is doing.

Wow, what a stupid post on so many levels. Gotta love it when lakerfan talks about the 2005-2007 Lakers and gets the facts wrong. In Bynum's 2nd season he started almost twice as many games as Kwame. Splitter also wasn't a 17 year old rookie who was skipping practice to eat cereal his rookie year.

    Exactly.

Other arguments aside, in a game like this, where literally nothing is working vs their tallest players and Blair gets benched for ing Diaw two minutes into the second half, Splitter deserves no less than 30 minutes. Last night was prime time for testing Splitter's resolve and skill against a huge frontcourt, maybe even with TD, and Pop didn't even try for s' sakes.

Dude...how can they be a non-contender the year they win a le?

They were contenders up until 2008, imo. Since 2009 they've been woefully embarrassing in the playoffs--coinciding directly with age, and the loss (or choice to play Finley over) Bowen. Since then they have been a defensive team who gets sodomized in the playoffs.

With Jackson and Leonard they have improved on the perimeter defensively, but they are still swiss cheese on the block. Splitter has a lot of upside, and he's still unpolished b/c Pop plays him so few minutes. Pop's a victim of his own regular season success, and won't adapt to playoff basketball.

That was the Suns' le that year IMHO. They had your number until Horry's heinous non-basketball acts that turned that series.

    Agreed with the rest though.

You must have a poor understanding of the Spurs weaknesses. You also don't seem aware of how well Splitter has played this season in 19.5 minutes/game.
