tbh, while Chicago technically will probably win the RS championship, they did so too last year...

This is just a humorous thread for all the fans here...

Could the Spurs beat the Bulls in the Finals if the Bulls had the homecourt advantage?

Well, since someone brought up tradition......

traditionally never bodes well for them, not sure why they wanted it tbh. would have made more sense to not try so hard and save it for the postseason.
Mavs had a tradition of choking if I recall. Look what that tradition got you last year.

If we're talking tradition - the Spurs have won a championship every time they've been #1 in Hollinger's power rankings by the end of the regular season.

In '07, we went into the playoffs #1 in Hollinger's rankings despite being a 3 seed and won it all.

In '05, we went into the playoffs #1 in Hollinger's rankings despite being a 2 seed and won it all.

Last year (2011), we went into the playoffs #5 in Hollinger's power rankings despite being the 1 seed overall. We were #1 in Hollinger's rankings early on to start the season, but we took an absolute nose dive near the end losing 8 of our last 12 regular season games.

    This year? http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/powerrankings

We have the second best overall point differential in the league and far and away the best point differential in the last 15-20 games. I don't actually remember the last time I've seen an overall rating >109. 107 is usually enough to snag the top spot in Hollinger's rankings.

Granted, Hollinger's rankings haven't been 100% accurate for everyone. The Mavs were not the #1 seed in Hollinger's rankings going into the playoffs last year, for example.

The Spurs have never lost an NBA Finals but they have always had homecourt advantage in the Finals. It will be interesting to see if the Spurs can win a championship in an even numbered year and without homecourt advantage in the Finals.

Some more food for thought for Lakerfans.

No NBA team since the inception of Hollinger's power rankings has ever won a championship while ranked on the dreaded "2nd page" of Hollinger's power rankings (i.e. rank 16-30).

It's actually stronger than that. The lowest ranked (Hollinger) team to win a championship is something like 5 or 6.

Lakers? They're ranked 16th with 2 regular season games to go -

While Metta World Weirdo watches from home.
Regional War is a non-factor. He'll be suspended far more games than the Lakers will have in the playoffs. They'll buyout the POS Regional War in the offseason for pennies on the dollar.

Mavs I am convinced are going to seriously kick their asses in the playoffs in the 2nd round and then TX will have a nice post superbowl showdown. Seeing Kidd knock down that 3 pointer on a broken play to beat the Celtics. shows that like the Spurs the Mavs are just finding ways to win when it counts after surviving their injury woes for a few weeks.

Although it would have been nice for the Spurs to have had the chance to take out the Lakers it looks like the Mavs will roll over that over-hyped team first - living on the fumes and over-hyped memories of a some recent runs through the West - however, these runs occured when neither TX power (SAS or the Mavs) was revived and/or as deep/talented and motivated as they seem to be now

Those who wrote off the Mavs are wrong- they are a damm good team, well coached, have a legit superstar and a savy/older top 5 all time PG, size and depth, and play their best against the top teams. They also are getting a promising player back in Roddy Beaubosis who will just run around Fisher with impunity and between those slow aging trees other out in Hollywood (other than the young man Bynum - who by that time will surely be affected by another little boo boo anyway.)

The only thing that will stop this scenario is if the Lakers continue to drop in the standings WHEN THEY FINALLY HAVE TO PLAY A TOUGH SCHEDULE (relatively = least back to backs in the league and those two pseudo road games vs. the Clips) then some other Western conference team will just have to do the dirty work instead of the Mavs in the 2nd round. That may well be the Spurs that get the honor of sending Kobe crying again - that is if the Lakers do not get beat in the first round = which the way that team is playing these days = may well happen. They really do not want to play either the Hornets or the Thunder in the first round but if they drop just a few more games and one of those teams go on a run - LAL is likely facing that scenario. [Current seeding are below and 1-8 winner will play the winner of the 4-5 in 2nd round while 2-3 should meet.]

If people check the archives I have been saying the spurs will at least make the WCF ...two years running. I was wrong last year, but i think this year's team has a chance to prove me correct. We shall see. But Spurs have the best offense a very solid and opportunistic (though not elite)defense. They have Parker playing at Finals MVP level and Lenard so far seems not to shy from big moments. Plus lately their bench has been blowing games off the hinges. I'm not convinced this team will ring but the only teams I see beating them in a 7 game series are: OKC (if Harden healthy), CHI (if Rose healthy) MIA (if Lebron continues beasting) LAL (longshot) DAL, BOS and MEM (even longer shots)

They have been the most impressive team this year, even more than the Heat or Bulls.

The Spurs are too old called, it thinks the "remember what happened last year comment" is tired already.

    Remember what happened in 06?

You might have a point if 2006 wasn't 6 years ago. The Spurs losing to an 8th seed, however, is their most recent playoff memory.

The "last year" comment might be relevant if...

-we didn't trade RJ for Jack
    -Hill for Leonard
    -add Diaw
    -add Green
    -implement Tiago more
-If everything stays the same have a healthy Manu
