costs too much to upgrade, but companys also forget they can claim it as deduction...fkn fail...
Anybody else have ty, terrible computers at work?
I'm currently using a Pentium 4 2.5 Ghz with 1GB RAM. This was an upgrade from the P4 2.2 ghz with 512MB RAM i was using last summer. Add random patches being pushed on an overworked network, and you have fail on so many levels.
Please tell me someone else is using decade old computers at work![]()

Do they do what they are suppose to do for work, or just not surf the internet fast enough?
We have some old computers too. However, I don't play video games of surf the net at work. They work just fine.
lol if ur still using decade old with winxp or some at work while their handheld smart phones are faster...
hence productivity has gone down ever since smart phones started to become faster and ppl busy with social network instead of doing work...
they generally rotate our refurbished work machines for service parts every 2-3 years. I got a 27" iMac at home in November and returned my old one. It is strictly work only.
Well at least you guys don't only use paper and pencil
all depends on the job tbh, but no respecting business would not have at least 1 computer around
If they did what they were supposed to do for work, they wouldn't be ty terrible work computers by definition.
My phone did have more RAM then my computer from last summer
I work in the pharma industry, and generally companies tend to lease computers for 2-3 years. Friends I know in the industry get upgrades often, and most are using i5s right now.
Apparently my company thought it was best to buy computers outright, and I guess this is their way of milking it? I lose about 30 min-1 hour everyday due to slowdowns, freezing, etc. And we're talking about MS Office and Acrobat. We use a ton of intranet-based web apps (SAP, etc.) and even browsing on IE 8 is terrible. And we upgraded from IE 6 last year
All our files are on networks drives which are obviously overloaded on top of that.
Java powered SAP? That's my bread and butter all day, 5 windows open![]()
I'm still running a core 2 duo 2.6Ghz at the office, but have been wanting to move to an i5 when they drop in price a bit...
Lol 4 windows. If I get one window, a word doc (2003 LMAO) and outlook open, its a victory for me.
My productivity would increase substiantially with a core 2 duo![]()
not about slow. my work HD is encrypted. That is the stupidest most re ed ever invented. It slows the computer by about 80%. takes 25 minutes to boot up.
you'd think in the year 2012 they'd have invented a secure and efficient alternative
Meh: I often service people using WYSE thin clients. I'd take a P4 with Windows 2k over a POS thin client any day...
Well, since I'm the only non grad working for a professor I get the computer thats in the office. So, I never go into the office and just work from where ever on my laptop. No way I'm going to sit and try to run GIS software on a computer slower than my phone when I carry around an I5.
SAP is down atm so I don't have to do today, wheeee.
Yeah es
Harrassed IT support enough that the gave me an 'upgrade' - Core 2 Duo E8400 3Ghz with 2 GB RAM. Still about 3-4 years behind, but better than a Pentium 4. I know we have i5s lying around since ing interns were using them this past summer, but whatever.
opening PDFs and DOCs within 2 seconds
multiple windows open
doesn't freeze when viewing animated gifs online
yes
What ty company are you working for?
Let's just say they're one of the 10 biggest pharma companies. Obviously saving money on PCs made them great, tbh.
did u do a course for this? fkn this is not taught in uni...fkn
Because SAP training is specialized and expensive, u fkn cheap wanker.
that and SAP is pretty heavily customized/modified from workplace to workplace, from what I have been told. I have asked for more training previously and was basically told there is none except actually doing work in other departments. I ended up asking for a rotation in another department and got more training. if you are decent with command line interfaces it's easy enough to pick up. when i first saw it it reminded me of the console in iD games![]()
i5-3470, 3 GHz
4 GB RAM
Windows 7
Word 2010 (from 2003, forget about 2013)
yes
still the same here![]()
