Been getting into these genres lately and I'm pretty much a noob at this point. The last 2 months I've grown to like Nero, Flux Pavillion, Avicii, Calvin Harris and Bassnectar the most. It's not for everyone, but I was hoping some of you would be familiar in this territory to recommend some good stuff.

I like Vex'd. This is kinda a cover of Death of Mr. Spock by King Tubby, dub of a dub as it were:
I'm like you. I've been on a serious EDM kick, as of late. I've always liked trance, house, and ambient music but I never really dove into it. I've just heard of bassnectar from the groups you listed though. A buddy of mine is all into this stuff and laid a bunch of stuff on me. There's deadmau5. I dig him. His latest one 4X4=12 is pretty damn good. I checked out the Raise Your Weapon single from that disc and it had a killer remix from this group from the Netherlands named Noisia. They have one disc out, Split the Atom, and I listen to it at least once a day. They're pretty damn good. I don't know what genre they're in because they kinda do a little bit of everything but they rock the DnB, which I like. My buddy turned me on to a website with all this stuff. Beatport.com
Oh, and Skrillex is good but apparently he's kinda looked down upon in the EDM community. Couldn't tell you why, but if you listen to other dubstep groups like Datsik, then you'll kinda hear why. Skrillex is good but the rumor is deadmau5 does the majority of his music.
skream's first album is pretty good, I also like Cyrus (Random Trio) - esp the first one called From the Shadows. I also like Blackfilm and Rumpistol.
Dodge & Fuski - Pornstep and Fierce. Go find it!
Is it just me or is dubstep just regular breaks with a chainsaw overlay? I am not in any way saying its bad, just funny that they made up a whole new name for it (I guess I should probably listen to some of the original british "bands" of the genre before fully passing that judgement).
My knowledge is a little more late 90's earlier 2000s, but for harder stuff I liked DJ John Kelly (hard desert trance), for more mental stuff I liked Infected Mushroom (Classical Mushroom especially the song "Bust a move") or Squarepusher. Uberzone for breaks and some hip hoppy feel (especially 2kool4skool with Afrika Bambaataa). Juno Reactor for a more ambient trip feel. Talvin Singh for some REAL relaxation. My favorite act was always Rabbit in the Moon (also the first act I saw in the states at an old Best Warehouse in Austin in 1997) and their best song was a cover of Tori Amos' precious things called "OBE".
Sorry if I maybe went a little off course for the thread, but I like hearing new stuff and sharing old stuff.
uplifting trance or hard trance for me...
one song atm i like is the rihanna only girl trance remix...the beat just kicks in during the chorus

Rihanna
how manly
tbh try groove armada.
Still love this song more than anything I've heard in the past couple of years.
Dupe.
However, since I have the post, whenever I need a good solid "techno" album I've been going to the latest Tron soundtrack. Daft Punk put in good work for that album/score.
The glitch mob
Pretty lights
Eskmo
Sbtrkt
Ratatat
Feed me
Beats antique
Darkstar
Bluetech
Mimosa
Mord fustang
Wolfgang gartner
Com truise
Nit grit
Pantyraid
12th planet
Been deep in this genre for quite some time so here's a very solid start so you don't have to sift through all the bull , which there is a ton of. Glitch mob is unreal.
I'll have to check some of that out.![]()
wow a TSA sighting
Cut him some slack, Rihanna's all right if you're into chicks who go out of their way to let you know she's bitter about getting knocked the out by writing songs about being a bad , or songs about putting down men or songs about just being a strong independent only to publicly forgive him and reconcile a few years later.
Still got nothing on my girl Katy Perry though. Went with this chick to her concert in Austin last summer and was 10 feet away from the stage the whole time. Katy is fifty bajillion times hotter in person than she is on TV. Best part is one her set started I did not so much as make eye contact with the chick I went to the concert with until it was over.
tbh tho dubstep is incredibly gay and only sounds cool if you're wasted on psychedelic drugs, which i unfortunately have grown out of because you cannot take them and be good to go at work the next day
If I have time later I'll post an accompanying track for each so you can see if you like the style as each group isn't necessarily "dubstep" as that genre has numerous spinoffs.
You couldn't be more wrong. Yes a lot of it sounds trippy as on drugs, but the stuff I listed is by actual talented musicians, not just some guy who's trying to melt your face. Check it out if you have time. Especially beats antique, one of the dopest live shows I've ever seen.
I've been listening to "we can make the world stop" a lot, cool song. Pretty lights is another artist(s?) I've been listening to. Some of those other people have appeared on my Pandora but I forgot their names, so thank you for the list.
has anyone heard Snarf? 's off the chain. I'll see if I can find it.
asked and answered...sweet...
btw, disregard the crappy video. Close your eyes and just listen...
i've seen a couple shows here in austin without being on drugs and it was okay, but most of the time if some kid plugs in his ipod at a house party and starts playing dubstep i have to walk up to him and give him the whole "no one else is on acid tonight bro so we gotta turn this off" speech.
i got a couple friends that spin dubstep shows at clubs and i have gone to check it out just because i get in without having to pay the cover and i enjoy myself, it's just not something i could see myself listening to in my spare time. definitely feels like party music. so i guess what im trying to say is i dont like dubstep unless i'm in that mood. which is much less frequently than the old jt, ing time is a cruel thief to all man. but better than being dead.
Jesus Christ. Remind me not to invite you anywhere.
