6 big
Was looking over the Box scores and loved to see the following.
Minutes
S jackson- DNP
K Leonard- DNP
D Green- 7:54
M. Bonner-12.49
T. Splitter-7:23
B. Diaw- 19:35
Having our Starters and key reserves play little to no minutes seemed like a no brainer and a great move to me. None of our key players played over 19 min. The following is the rest of the minutes.
Minutes
J. Andeson- 40:12
P. Mills- 42:51
C. Joseph- 37:58
D. Byars- 32:48
D. Blair- 38:30
Why are we playing Blair 38 minutes in this game? Is this a prelude to Splitter Starting? I dont see why they would risk him playing him so many minutes when they could have split up more with bonner and diaw.
does anyone think Blair will be used sparingly in the playoffs? The high minutes in this last game make me wonder.
Thoughts?
Blair will be the 5th big in the rotation.
Duncan + Diaw start. Bonner + Splitter first bigs off bench.
Im not exact, but didnt blair start like 60 games this year?
62, but not any more.
yeah and the lakers blew the socks off the spurs
so spurs now make him 5 big
spurs also did not have diaw at start of season
blair is tooooooooooooooo short
He hasn't started several games this month and received a couple of DNP. I think a couple of those were against the Lakers. Jazz are expected to go big against us and Memphis will probably be 2nd round opponent. He's just too undersized.
10 rotation players:
Duncan/Splitter
Diaw/Bonner
Leonard/Jackson
Green/Manu
Tony/Neal
3 more players in uniform
Blair
Anderson
Mills
2 players in suits behind the bench
Joseph
Byars
Dont get me wrong people, I know Blair is under sized and has always has been, but he normally has started and played like 12 minutes in games where we even had a height advantage or not. Makes sense that he would play limited minutes in this series, but I still think he willl be needed and playing him 38 min could have been costly.
Yoda
What's the point of starting him a few minutes if he's the fifth big or at best fourth big?
Blair might get some heavy burn against OKC in a WCF series. Otherwise his role will mostly consist of mop up duty and cheer leading.
He's just really bad against tall ball. REALLY bad.
wouldn't surprise me if he'd start to match up Milsap.
Blair is young. Even if a need were to arise in game one, he will have gone from Thursday to Sunday. Spurs as a team haven't had even that much rest in a month.
Could be useful against Clippers frontcourt
If the Clip show makes it out of the first round, tbh...
It would shock the out of me. Diaw is SOOOOOOOOOO much better defensively.
I think last night solidified the fact that Blair has fallen to 5th big in the rotation.
Tim didn't play. Splitter didn't even come out in the second half (iirc). Diaw and Bonner barely got a run (we've already got another freak out thread because Diaw played longer than Bonner, but that's beside the point). Obviously, Pop / Mike were trying to keep these guys from being injured here at the end of the season.
Blair? IT! Play him for forty!
As a person, I feel bad for him. But as a fan who is hoping to see another trophy raised in June....thank jeebus. Jefferson gone. Blair benched. Bonner....well, Bonner is still there, but at least now we have options if Playoff Bonner decides to show up again.
When was the last time Pop was praising Blair's defense yet he has for Diaw.
the thing is, I kinda agree with this, but Didnt Blair start a ton of games he shoudnt have and still played 10-15 min? Someone suggested he still might start versus Utah and get pulled fast. I think thats a good possibiblity.
I think Blair will start and play very limited minutes, but my point was why would you play any started 38 minutes on last game of season?
I really see him and Bonner splitting that "4th big" role, with Bonner taking most of the min.
If Blair can give good energy for about 5 min a game vs Jazz I would be all for it!
see mins if they play OKC. Don't see with how well Diaw has played and how much Pop gushed over him, that Diaw isn't starting and playing major mins.
