For the record, nobody shot the 3 well in the Memphis series.

    RJ: 6/17 35.5%
    Bonner: 6/18 33.3%
    Manu: 9/28 32.1%
    Hill: 4/15 26.7%
    Neal: 5/19 26.3%
    Green: 1/4 25%
    Parker: 1/8 12.5%
    Total: 32/119 26.9%

From a team that shot 39.7% for the season and depends on shooters to knock it down, that's not going to get you out of any round of the playoffs.
It's more than just one series for MR MATT BONNER, it's the last few years and heading up to the playoffs where he fades! He sees April come, he runs.
I've put this in every other thread, may as well put it here too.

Quiz: Who was the Spurs #1 player in Win Shares per minute in the 2011 playoffs

Answer in white, highlight to see: MATT F**KING BONNER

Some of the less educated Spurs fans may be surprised to hear that from game to game, the value Bonner brings to the team is not all that dependent on his 3 pt percentage. It's a bit cliche to say, but it truly is about spreading the floor, and making the offense a 4 on 4 game instead of 5 on 5. Having additional floor space to operate an offense in is HUGE. HUGE HUGE HUGE.

And on D getting abused by Darrell Aurthur or whoever out there? It's like we are playing 4 on 5 on D at times.

It's engrained. Even if there is less pressure on him to perform he'll find a way to add it himself. This is what is so maddening, is that it's so easy to see when Bonner is ting himself out on the court, his form goes all to , he starts rushing the shot before his feet are even set, etc, etc. Yet Pop will leave him in there to throw up brick after brick after brick.

I have to admit, begrudgingly, that Matt is looking okay. He's playing decent defense, and by decent I mean average, and he's going after rebounds. He even added the dribble drive to his "arsenal". Maybe Matt Bonner has not hit his ceiling. Maybe Matt Bonner is still learning. Nobody thinks that he'll become the next Dirk Nowitzki, but maybe he can become more than just the punch line in the "Did ya hear the one about the Spurs defense?" joke.

I don't get why this guy gets a million chances. That Matt Bonner experiment should have ended years ago. He's got a limited ceiling at best.

i like bonner but i don't like his chances. bonner has been constantly chased off of his spots and comfort zones by playoff teams.

    miracles do happen though.

He's 6'10, a below average athlete, an average defender, a below average rebounder but he gives effort, a hard worker, and a solid three point shooter. That's Matt Bonner in a nuts . He's got a couple of moves offensively other than the three, but that's his biggest skill. And he's got a low basketball IQ for a guy as smart as he is. But at the same time those add up to be decent traits for a big coming off the bench.

Ya'll like to talk up Steve Novak, but Novak is too small strength and weight size to be playing PF and way to slow to guard SFs but that's essentially his position as a Knick. Funny thing is, Bonner hits his shots at a similar percentage, plays better defense, has more size (they're about the same height though,) and is a better rebounder. But most of ya'll would still take Novak any day. The one thing I'll give Novak is he's got a much better release. I wish Bonner shot like that no doubt.

Bonner is a great 4th big IMO, good for 12 or so MPG. When he plays too high on the depth chart, or is asked to do too much, you see the results.

There would probably be far less hate for Bonner if he had some minute-eaters in front of him. But with Pop saving Duncan and refusing to play Splitter more than 17-20 MPG, Bonner (and Blair) get more time than is good for the team.

Agreed. I declared that was the best playoff game he's ever played. That said, it was a B- game. Again, in the playoffs, if you get B- games from Bonner this team becomes VERY hard to beat. He was also used just right. In with Tiago and Tim. wasn't put in too many spots to fail.

If you get 3/4 from 3 out of Matty BonBon, you're going to win 9/10 games. But it was one game. Let's slow down.

This thread was made about a month ago so it has been more than one game. He's been playing well most of the year. If regular season Matt has finally found a way to either kill or reabsorb playoff matt, then we have a great weapon, what pop has been envisioning this whole time.

No ones declaring him cured, just that it was a gigantic step in the right direction.

I think the expectations are pretty high. He did nail 2 clutch game 1 3s last year, but we lost the game. He shot 33%, which is below his season average but not series-destroying. The only way he gets respect during this run on this board (not that I agree) is if he is hitting 50%+ from range.

I dont think it was to be 50% If he shot 2 of 5 had 6 rebounds and played good D, that IMO is a damn good game.

Rebound, defend well, dont get bullied in the post, and make at least 40% of the threes and he and the team is fine.

matt needs to tread every game from now on as a regular season game than a playoff game, takes the pressure off him with too much thinking and expectations that he has to deliver in the playoffs then the regular season games....

every time he penetrates into the key i would like to see him chuck up some floater instead of looking to pass it out where he lacks control and court vision, i think i can put up with his circus shots when penetrating cause he needs touches to get his game going, compared to the other low % players on the team who will play only limited minutes and role responsibility...

5 of 10 from distance in the series sweep, averaging 16 min/game, and played some tough defense down low against more highly skilled and bigger dudes.

Probably Bonner's best playoff series ever. He was used appropriately, and filled his role.

Key words used appropriately. Next round there are HORRIBLE matchups with Griffen. That said, I could live with him being on Kenyon Martin.
