The question remains unanswered is because it's a stupid question that should have an obvious answer for anyone who is a true fan of the game. When a team fails to repeat, it usually means their team wasn't good enough.

totally agree ... so make sure to bring up that answer when Spur Nation bring up the 2005 non-playoff appearance comes up instead of trying to pin it on one dude.

This is why the world hates Kobe fan. Always rewriting history. Kobe didn't lock down . AI averaged 35 points a game in that series on .407 shooting. Now I'm sure you're ready to hammer out a response citing that shooting percentage as "proof" of your bull claim, but the thing is, AI averaged .389 for that '01 playoff run, so if anything, he elevated his game against Kirby.

And lol at Kirby ever being a legitimate DPOY candidate, handchecking or not.
And this is why Laker fans don't like disengenuous Laker haters like you. Where did I say he did it in the Finals? That 35 ppg you mentioned was against Fisher. Kobe was called upon to lock down players when it was situational (i.e. at the end of quarters or end of games).

Remember, AI teammed up with Melo for a year or two in _enver and still ended up rang-less thanks to Kobe.

I'll readily admit that Kobe takes defensive possessions off or will seem disinterested in guarding scrubs. However, even right now in his 16th year, we all have seen him lock down players when he wants to. The most recent victim: Westbrick (who just so happen to torch Sessions for 36 in the previous game). How did he look in the finale? Here's a hint: he is intimidated by Kobe.

And yes, Kobe does have defensive capabilities to do damage. Nowadays you can't touch players (no hand checking). That has "created" superstars like Wade. But that's another argument altogether.

Repeats. Lol. C'mon, Ashy. You know 'ships are a team accomplishment. Asking that question is kinda like asking "how come if Kareem was so great, he couldn't win a championship with the Lakers until Magic got there?"
    He won in Milwaukee...without Magic.

Lol. Any time we have player vs. player debates, the "unwritten rule" is to use playoff performances to back up your particular claim. Locking down AI in a meaningless regular season game doesn't do much to bolster a legacy.

And before you start , Lakerfans invented the regular season concept (which is something I agree with actually).

    Kobe: 5

the tired old bag Duncan: 4

    next month.

Am I prophet or what...I tried to warn you s that this thread would make midget go OCD insane...Crown me Nostradamous..

You may not know this but the poster known as Midnight_Pulp literally has OCD also known as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's a neurological disorder that literally causes your brain to get stuck on the same thought in sort of an endless loop.

His particular mental disorder is that when he see's water or when it rains he thinks he's literally drowning...Last year in a post he admitted to calling 911 like 44 times in a month (or something close to that) because while standing on his front porch he literally thought he was drowning.

Now I say all that to say this...with this post you're going to cause him to go into some compulsive rage over PER....

Kobe repeated with Gasoft. After Pau got his Finals cherry popped in 2008, Kobe challenged Pau which elevated his play. Pau went on to outplay D-12, KG, and Sheed to the tune of a back to back. Something Timmay never did. Maybe Gasoft is > TD? An argument can be made. Since 2008, it's

    TD: 0
    Gasoft: 2

Gasoft is a back to back champion. Before Kobe, he was 0-12. Kobe turned Gasoft into a 2-time champion. that .

Hmm.... let's see here.... Kobe is a SG, Duncan is a PF. So just how can you compare the two? Both are 2 of the best to grace the hardwood. If Duncan wins his 5th ring they would have a virtual tie in just who is the best. But I'd give the nod to Duncan, one because I'm a Spurs fan, and two because I believe Duncan is the rarest superstar in the history of professional sports and there will never be another one like him. But to the average fan, Kobe would still get the nod and here's why:

Kobe has been in a large market his whole career. This has helped him in two ways. L.A. attracted big names that helped him win his les and it helped balloon Kobe's popularity. And Kobe ate up the limelight, he was perfect for it. He loves the attention and it has helped him blossom to one of the best players ever.

Duncan has been in a small market his whole career. S.A. is a city where they are lucky to get aging past-their-prime stars. We all know S.A. is shunned in the media. ESPN will embrace a small market for a short while if your superstar welcomes it. Duncan never cared too much for that. IMO he was never too comfortable with the hype. It shouldn't hurt his bid to be the best player in his generation but it does.

Both great players. Both win championships. Both went about it in different aways. One is way more popular than another.

No, they don't count for more than two rangs. It is just more impressive to go 2 (or more ) straight years as champion. The NBA made a big deal about it when MJ 3peated twice, then Shaq and Kobe did it once, then Dream repeated. Prior to MJ's Bulls, Magic did it in 1987-1988.

Spurfans like to brag about how Duncan never went lotto, consecutive years of 50+ wins, etc. My ace in a hole is that he never repeated as a champion. Until he proves me wrong I'll keep saying it. Time is running out for TD - meanwhile Kobe's window is open for another 2-3 years. Thems be the facts.

'Ships are still a team accomplishment. Sorry. But I understand you're getting your revenge for being on the end of 4>3 for a couple of years, that is, if you were even posting on any message boards pre-Gasol trade, which I doubt.

I'm new to ST, but I've made my mark.

Tbh, I've been posting on LG since Summer of 2005. You know, the year Shaq was not there and Kobe had to roll with such a spectacular supporting cast. I don't know why you would try to call me some sort of bandwagon fan. I'm here win/lose or draw. All the time.

    But carry on though...

Why are we comparing PFs with SGs?

Kobe is the #2 SG of all time,

Tim is the #1 PF of all time.

    Seriously, people.

Larry Legend Bird...all time great. Never repeated. Philly and LA in his way. Tim lost a chance to .4 and Dirk`s Gm 7 Heroics, and Fish with another no-call in 08. It sucks but it doesn't take away the greatness that is Duncan.
Its funny, should we crack on Bean for being the only leader on a PJax coached team to
not win a 3peat. Remember, as the true leader.
