Did you just *really* take my post seriously? smh
Meaningless award, but the last time it actually did mean something was Pop. From 2004-2011 it's been a "Who can run their best players into the ground during the regular season and make it look like his team overachieved the most" award. Pop won it while also keeping his best players rested which is pretty impressive. D'antoni or Thibs winning it by playing their starters 40 minutes a game isn't impressive at all.
Did you just *really* take my post seriously? smh
Nope. You got 5. You can't claim Jackson's les he won with the Knicks and Bulls.
The rules have been set in stone, I got:::
Phil Jackson: 13
TOSB pop: 4
And why was Thibs in the running this year anyway? Yeah they were 15 and 6 without Rose, but the majority of those wins came against the likes of Cleveland, Washington, Charlotte, and other such bottom feeders and mediocre teams. At the beginning of the season, everyone predicted Chicago to have one of the 3 best records in the league. On the other hand, it was supposed to finally be the year in which the Spurs would struggle to make the playoffs.
Thibs is a great coach, no doubt, but I don't see anything he's doing with the Bulls that can be considered remarkable.
The one thing I'll really give Thibs credit for is finally motivating Deng to reach his potential better than any previous Chicago coach, especially on defense. Otherwise I don't see anything special with Thibs.
This is the huge difference and the reason why Pop has been clear favorite for literally months now. Everyone expected the Bulls to be great. Thibodeau did some great things, no doubt, but the Spurs overachieved to a much greater extent.
Thibodeau is a very good x's and o's coach, I disagree that he isn't anything special..
There are very few good coaches in the NBA, Thibs is one of them IMO..
Thibodeau, Carlisle, Adelman and Pop are the only "good" coaches in the NBA IMO..Karl, Van Gundy and Doc Rivers are above average..the rest of the coaches in the league are either average or ty, tbh..
agreed....
imo Gentry is a top 5 coach, he's overachieved significantly in his 3 full seasons as the Suns coach. People compare him to D'antoni and say he's a one trick pony but in his case he's simply using a system that best fits his team. The fact he had the 2010 Suns 2 games away from the finals and the 2012 Suns 2 games away from the playoffs is pretty remarkable.
Thibodeau is a good coach, when I said nothing special I meant nothing that makes me think he's a future coaching HOFer. Doc Rivers is also massively overrated and if not for having a team with 3 vets who keep everyone in line he wouldn't be considered good either.
I still say that as far as maximizing talent in the short term goes, Larry Brown trumps all.
Also, Doc Rivers' Celtics had a 19-game losing streak in 2007--that's a pretty significant feat considering that was one of the weakest years of NBA compe ion EVER.
Exactly, before KG came along to bully any s who wouldn't do what they were told, Rivers was regarded as one of the worst coaches in the NBA. During the 2006-2007 season all of Bill Simmons' articles had a part where A) Simmons would chug Steve Nash's glug and B) Simmons would make a joke about how stupid Doc Rivers was. He's also one of the only coaches in NBA history to sub 5 players at once (and he, unlike the other coaches, didn't do it during garbage time, he actually did it during a close game).
Doc Rivers is not a good coach IMHO. Average or below. Thibodeau's defensive schemes and planning were and still are a huge part of that team's success, particularly the 08 le.
I agree about Gentry, I forgot about him, tbh..
I don't think Rivers is a special coach, but I'd still put him in the above average tier, he's better than the other Black coaches, he seems more relatable IMO..
Lionel Hollins, Mike Woodson, Byron Scott, Mike Brown, Avery Johnson, and Ty Corbin are all virtually the same coach, tbh..
THIS!
& Pop still has his health, TOSB Jackson cant even walk let alone sit for along period of time!
Hard to move with the weight of 13 rings on you.
Congrats to Pop on the trinket! Well deserved. A great coach!
Phil is great at demanding respect, managing egos, and remaining cool under pressure. But he doesnt come across as a great basketball mind like a Larry Brown or Pop. I probably couldve won a couple of rings if I was coaching MJ-Pippen and Shaq-Kobe tbh.
Lakerground thinks Pop is the greatest coach in the world. Some of you Laker fans here need to go there and straighten them out. Let us know how that goes for you back home.
not me cauz I'm French and soft
btw what happened to your thread ?
freedom fries make you tough
Yeah bro not sure if you wouldve been able to manage the egos tbh, they probably wouldve rebelled against you just for being French. And Im assuming some French were offended and Kori/timvp deleted it.![]()
if true you were right french are soft![]()
This is one of the reasons he was named COY... dude knows how to get his point across...
