Oden got paid, and still has that "other thing" going for him

what's sad is the devastating injuries Portland fan has had to endure

I don't think an NBA team could pick Erving at the time, which is why he went to the ABA.

Hopefully he'll get healthy and become a force on a club leaving Portland outside of the playoffs...

Some savy team is going to offer him the minimum and pick him up and he will one day come back and be a pretty good reserve player on a winning team. Could see Boston or Spurs doing exactly that.

I don't want a guy who thinks getting wasted all the time is a good idea when he should be focused on rehabbing like from a career-threatening injury. Oden probably should have kept all that to himself tbh.

Oden would be a premier bigman right now if he had went anywhere else other than Portland.

Happens more than you'd think, and as the article pointed out he was even more susceptible because he was injured and wasn't with the team much. Addiction is a , and young millionaires have the money to fund theirs. Isn't one of the best hitters in baseball a former heroin addict?

To me it seemed as though he was taking reponsibility. Saying "yup, I screwed up" and learning from his mistakes.

I can't say I feel sorry for him either, he doesn't even feel sorry for himself.

There really aren't centers like him in the league anymore, all of them are very athletic now a days. Athletes that big aren't made for a 82 game season to be honest. Look at Andrew Bynum he is always hurt but. Then look at Dwight who is rarely ever hurt because he is much more athletic .

Oden should go to Suns, if any staff can keep him playing it's them.

And in a few years he can retire to Scottsdale like a proper senior citizen.

Seriously though, it's surprising to see he's not up to his neck in self pity or ting all over the Blazers franchise. I'd bet against him making it back into the league, but I'd wish him the best of luck in proving me wrong.

If he rehabs all the way back, I'd say pay the minimum and play him bench minutes to see how he handles it. Could end up being a force on some NBA team but you'd want to limit his minutes because he'd end up breaking something else sooner or later.
