The Spurs have finished 1st or 2nd in division for 15 straight years.

I was wondering if that was some kind of record, so I did some research.

The only teams that I thought could match that are Boston and LA Lakers.

Boston has accomplished that feat for 13 straight years(56-68)

    Lakers only 12 times(80-91)

    The reason: Tim Duncan

Tim Duncan has been such a model of consistency for this franchise, we all need to thank our lucky stars that he came to our Spurs. I can say that he has been 100% responsible to the Spurs' great success every bit as much as Russell, MJ, Bird and Magic meant to their great teams, but for even a greater tenure than those other HOFers. Damn, it's going to be sad when he joins them in retirement......we have been so spoiled.

There are a few other similar records the spurs have, thanks largely to Tim. 15 consecutive years of a winning record on the road (previous record was the Lakers' 12 also during 80-91), and of course, the 50-win season record.

They've won 9 division les and in the 6 years that they didn't win the division, they've finished:

    * tied for the division once (2007-08, tie with New Orleans)

    * 1 game behind the division winner once (2003-04, 1 GB Minnesota)

    * 2 games behind the division winner once (1999-2000, 2 GB Utah)

When they haven't won the division outright, they've been a very close second very frequently.

By the way, if you look beyond the Duncan era to include the Robinson era as well, the Spurs have finished 1st or 2nd in their division in 22 of 23 seasons.

We're spoiled by the success that we've grown to expect. Teams just don't do what these Spurs have done for nearly 25 years.

Juxtaposition the Clippers, they have never finished 1st and only finished twice in their division in 29 years.
