The trouble with blacks is their lack of desire to get an education, then they want good jobs. You have to pay the price of getting the degrees if you want the good jobs. Blacks just are far behind other races with regard to education.

Puerto Ricans are a mix of Latins and blacks to varying degrees. Mexicans don't have the black mix, more Aztec and other Indian mixes and Spanish. They should not be grouped as the same race.
That's not necessarily an excuse so much as an identification of the causes imo. The stats I've seen show that African Americans are overrepresented in the inner city. We all know the effects that poverty can have on a population.
Since I incline more towards Sowell's interpretation of ghetto culture, I'd argue that a lot of the problems you see like crime rates and the behaviours ingrained by that particularly destructive subculture can be traced back to poverty and disillusionment.
That said, I hate people who don't work, who steal, kill, rob, and don't put any effort into bettering themselves. That's annoying and a waste of resources. But from what I've seen the majority of black Americans aren't even from the ghetto. I guess it's easier to remember the negatives in general though.

There's also millions Mexicans in this country who live below the poverty threshold but don't exactly have a legal standing that's generally required to file for welfare.
More mexicans in the country than Puerto Ricans but more Puerto Ricans where I live now. I have lived in San Antonio and never had any problems with mexicans.
