I get your point but I have to disagree with quite a bit of this.

Even though slavery was abolished an incredibly long time ago Jim Crow laws were still in existence as recently as the 1960's. Legislation designed to prevent minorities (and black people in particular) from getting ahead in your country isn't something that African Americans were just making up during the Civil Rights Movement that many people can still remember participating in.

If I had to guess I'd argue that a lot of those past experiences have helped shape the perceptions of people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson - and I'm saying that as someone who every time I see them on television.

The fact that the majority of American blacks have been able to work their way out of poverty in such a short time period is proof that most of them have taken advantage of the opportunities that are available to them in America.

You need to differentiate better between people from the ghetto and people who have a particular skin colour.

And if your complaint is mostly about the ghetto then I can tell you straight on that they live in a subculture that has completely different priorities than the current mainstream one. Well, actually, the priorities are the same but the way people go about getting what they want isn't. Some of that is backlash and some of that is simply not being raised to know better.

Lastly, it isn't exactly whining to complain about people associating you with criminals when you're a hard-working person who abides by the law. I can't tell you how many white people I've seen who say stuff like "I didn't sell slaves and I don't want to be held responsible for the bad things white people have done in the past...". To suggest that somehow black people shouldn't get the same benefit of a doubt is disingenuous at best and really isn't equal rights.

The stats I was looking at still show that black people are more likely to be incarcerated, more likely to be stopped by the cops, less likely to get hired, and on and on it goes. Between the otherizing that African Americans go through and the fact that many of them have to deal with at udes like this on a regular basis, there's clearly a lot of progress that still needs to be made on both sides.

Not to be an ass, but did you ever stop and consider that maybe it wasn't a huge conspiracy? I have plenty of black friends, and in my experience my black friends ARE more likely to sell drugs especially pot. Studies show that there IS a correlation between races and IQ which would lead to more ability on the job. For instance, Jews are never unemployed and usually wealthy and it's because on average they are the smartest people in the world, boasting an average IQ of 112 compared to 102 for asians and 100 for whites. Hiring/arresting people in equal amounts just to appease people would be racist in and of itself. It should never be about race at all, just individual people which I think is the case in America.

Basically my point is that sometimes there is a bit of truth to the stereotypes and certain statistics don't mean that the deck is stacked against a particular race. As long as it's mostly the white and asian kids going to college, why wouldn't you expect to see whites and asians getting the jobs? It makes sense. And please don't say that it's easier for whites to go to college than blacks. My family doesn't have thousands of dollars in discretionary income to finance my education, i had to take out the same loans that any black kid can get.
