Ok, get the laughs out before you continue reading. Rewind back to March 17th when Parker was having a Tony Parker like game against OKC. Enter Ivey who harassed the out of Parker, forcing him into a couple of turnovers and limiting his production offensively. Brooks was asked today if he'd consider putting Thabo on Parker. The answer was yes. Ivey? The answer was yes. Ivey plays balls to the wall, he's actually a very intelligent player and he gets his money's worth when he's out on the floor. He's a guy that will play hard defense for every single one of those 24 seconds on the shot clock. Personally, I'd like to see him get a shot at Parker. I think he's smart on the pick and roll defensively. What's to lose really? Thunder fans have pressed for more minutes for Ivey in situations this year because of his defensive intensity. Why in the world Derek Fisher played the last X minutes of the game in game 2 is beyond me. I'll take Royal Ivey vs SA any day over Fisher.

Cute. If someone with any basketball knowledge would like to chime in, that'd be good to read.

Agreed. I'm a Royal Ivey fan too. Hes carved out a respectable NBA career over the years. But I'm not convinced he'll do the job.

Now, if this were a different Texas point guard....Avery Bradley maybe...then I'd be genuinely worried.

I'm not suggesting the guy's gonna go out there and just make Parker a non-factor. Let's get real here, Parker's not a guy you can do that to. However, aside from Thabo, who on the OKC roster could guard Parker any better than Ivey? I don't know of anyone.

OKC isn't going to stop SA by putting individual defenders out there. Thabo hasn't made a difference on Manu. Ivey won't make a difference on Parker. That's due to SA's offense being so good as a cohesive unit.

The popular thing to say is that OKC's only chance of winning is to outscore SA. Ivey would be counterintuitive to that strategy. Put out your best 5, defend with athleticism and length, and cross your fingers the Spurs aren't shooting well.

Couldn't hurt to try. I also noticed Ivey playing parker and he didn't do too bad.

Hopefully Brooks won't try it and keeps going to Fish.

Me too. Fisher has nothing on Ivey offensively and he sure as has nothing on him defensively. Ivey is much longer and quicker and just an overall better defender. I think Brooks has in his mind that Fisher somehow goes hero mode come playoff time and I suppose he did in Game 1, but I'll take Ivey's defense because, as I've said before, I don't think offense is our main issue here.

No more so than he's destroying anyone else! Throw another defensive specialist at him, try and shake things up a little. Can't hurt.

Go ahead, try it. At the same time Brooks would also be taking minutes away from Spur killah Fisher so it's a win.

And at thinking a player averaging 4.3 minutes a game in the playoffs will come into a game and actually have a hand in both disrupting Parker and making up the offense that Fisher brings.

When Ivey entered that game in the first half, the Spurs were up by 7. When he sat down the Spurs were up by 24.

That lead was not stretched from 7 to 24 due to Tony Parker. He was on the bench. In Q4 when Ivey was guarding Parker, he played some very very nice defense on him. Look, I'm not making some claim that Ivey's our answer to anything, but down 0-2 and with nothing else seeming to slow SA down on offense, it's sure as worth at least a thought.

Does anybody think DeJuan Blair could be a Kevin Durant stopper? They're both 6'7/6'8 and Blair has crazy long arms.

    UT homer here.
even if ivey could score, he still can't guard Parker, and Brooks would be pilloried by the press and okc management if he gave ivey significant minutes
