Kind of interested in seeming how the NBA forum feels about this so here we go. We'll start with the more broad of the two subjects. I spend a lot of time talking about the teams I like, watching the games and basically involving myself in those team's seasons. When they are eliminated, I feel like it's personal. Teams that beat my team go on my list, and I tend to "dislike" them forever. I know some people out there just accept that the other team is better than you and root for them in the next round. Some people would rather their favorite team's conference win the championship outright no matter what team represents them.

In my case I'm even willing to alter my feelings about other teams to fit my newfound hate for a team that eliminated mine. That said, after two years of being a Heat hater I willingly will root for LeBron to beat Kevin Durant to a le if Miami wins Game 7. If Boston wins it's easier because I like most of their players outside of KG. How do you side?

    * * *

The other thing I want to talk about probably belongs in the college sports forum but because it relates to Durant, I'll talk about it here. Some of you probably know that I live in Austin, if you didn't now you do. Obviously most of this town is on the Thunder's right now because Durant went there for one year. I would not have a problem with this one bit if the Thunder were still the Seattle SuperSonics. But as you unfold the Durant Situation a little more, the real issue arises. I was born a Longhorns fan. My mother went to the school and I was probably wearing Longhorns swag before I knew what it even was. I was raised to root for UT athletics and even though they denied me admission to the school because I wasn't enough of a minority (I'm like "what Hitler had in mind" white, btw) I still root for their teams.

That said, there's a certain unwritten rule about being a Horns fan in that OU is the Lex Luthor to your Superman. Oklahoma. My stepdad crashed his motorcycle in Oklahoma some years ago and will never go back because he's convinced the roads in the state have it out for him because he's a Horns fan. The sports supers ious side of me would tend to agree. Kevin Durant plays for a team in Oklahoma. I don't care if he won four national championships for UT (he didn't; he won one NCAA tournament game, promptly was eliminated in the next one and dropped out to enter the NBA draft after one year. What a great Longhorn, he did so much for us!), he lives in Oklahoma now. Good-bye and good riddance, right? That's why I'm saying if he played for the Sonics it wouldn't be so bad. Sure everyone in Austin would be on Seattle's right now, but we aren't bitter rivals with any schools in the state of Washington. Am I overreacting about this or is there some weight to how I feel? I don't necessarily care, but I've pissed off a lot of people today by telling them they will get put through the ringer by me every time I hear them support the Horns. I am particularly pissed at one person who before the playoffs started was one of those "I don't really have a team, I just like certain guys" sports fan who now says to me "I told you you guys wouldn't beat us."

If it's Oklahoma City vs Boston, there is no question as to who Lakers fans are rooting for. Boston.

Heat, but wouldn't be that upset if OKC won. As long as Boston's gone it's a sit-back-and-enjoy scenario for me.

I root for LeBron solely because I don't think he deserves all the criticism and is treated very unfairly by the universe. I tend to not root for Durant because he gets a pass on absolutely everything. Also I think Westbrook is annoying. I'll be cheering for the Heat/Celtics.

post to keep this thread afloat tbh, JT brought some good works and thanks for that but when/if such a decent thread is started on spurstalk, it's diving down to the 2nd or 3rd page real soon tbh

if you just start a thread w/ "lol __blank__", it's staying on front page for weeks to come

Nothing in particular, just Imagining Lebron and Durant having identical sub-par to bad games, and Durant would receive little to no criticism while LeBron is crucified.

I have no problem with Lakers fans not wanting Boston to be there. You guys have decades worth of hate for Boston. It's nowhere near the level of Spurs-Lakers or Spurs-Mavs rivalry. But if Miami is there are you guys more inclined to root for them because OKC eliminated you or don't really care as long as it's a good series?

Tbh I'm more hoping that it's a good series than wanting either team to win. OKC-Miami could turn out to be chapter 1 of a long rivalry

I'd Like to see Fisher play balls-out, but it's time for LBJ to win one. He's paid his dues...Like you said tho, I want 7 visciously compe ive games

I'll be rooting for OKC regardless of who comes out of the East. Great team to watch. Now that the Spurs are out of it, I'm ashamed to say I kind of want to see the Durant - Lebron matchup. After Lebron's performance tonight, it should be one for the ages.

Lebron is playing unconscious right now. Would be fitting if he rings this year because you'll soon start seeing his decline in a year or two.

Heat-OKC finals would be epic and like DD said, good for bball in general. But Boston winning in game 7 will be a big you to stern.

No way I could root for the Thunders after how they won the WCF.

I would like to watch their faces if they get robbed in the Finals.

I can understand this view and respect it. However, he still voluntarily went to Texas and represented the Horns. He didn't really have a choice when he was drafted or when the team moved. Sure, it's not desirable that he plays in the land of the devil, but in a way I get a chuckle out of it. Those Sooner s have two choices...hate your home team or root for the Longhorn that leads them. I will root for him to get his ring...but make no mistake...I do not align myself with those Harden beard wearing dumbasses or the fat, shirtless hillbilly that makes animal noises through the megaphone while players shoot free throws. That place could get McVeigh'd after a home game and I wouldn't shed a tear. Just make sure KD is out of the building first.

As far as only spending a year at Texas, I can't really knock the man for that tbh. , if I was that talented there is no way I risk a winning lotto ticket to stay in college. I'd would have loved to see him stay and get the Horns a national le as much as the next fan...but at the end of the day I can't hate on him for getting his money.

I'm rooting for a 7-game series. I thought I'd be 100% for OKC in this series, but LeBron can only be shat on for so long. Right now, OKC in 7 would be what I'd like to see, but I reserve the right to change my rooting interest.
