Why?
What would it take, guys? A sign and trade deal with Splitter for Batum straight up? Blair for Batum straight up? Or a combo of Splitter and Neal or Blair and Neal for Batum? Would you guys go for any of these? Batum can play the 2 while Leonard mans the 3 and imagine their athleticism together in the court. Batum could be the one guy that can put us over the Thunder next year. I think he's that good. Of course, we'd be without a big if we had to part with Splitter for him but it's not like he helped us any against the Thunder this year and we would've made the WCF with or without him. Still, if we can keep him and still land Batum somehow, that's the ideal scenario. But what do you guys think of our chances in getting him?
Why?
Batum is going to ask for and get a deal starting at at least 8 million. Not worth it when SA already has Kawhi.
Plus, Batum's game seems to have regressed over the last 2 seasons. Not as impressive as he used to be.
Remembering for a moment that we have Khawi Leonard in the fold, why is it that you feel we need Batum?
Don't get me wrong, I love Batum too, but the Spurs interior defense seems to be a much more pressing issue, at this time. They really need a long-armed, ass-kicking, PF/C type?
This team needs athlete and length of all shapes and sizes.
True, but not at the cost of not being able to address more pressing needs, i.e. improvement in the frontcourt. Batum is going to command enough that pursuing him while the Spurs are already retaining Jackson and Leonard would be redundant and a waste of resources.
A talented one too, might I add.
Unless he turns into Durant 2.0 then no rather go after a big.
Nope. Would be a waste of money when that cash can go towards addressing what we really need, an athletic, talented, defensive big.
What they said - Kawhi and Jax make him redundant, and we can't afford him anyway.
He may become another Hedo rather than a Rudy Gay like player
i want someone that can put on the floor + athletic + long + big man + pg.
a defensive big is priority #1. what don't people get about that?
i'm pretty sure with manu, kawhi, jax, neal, and green we are ok at the wing positions. what we need is a full time backup to tony (perhaps resign mills, let him learn the offense) and a formidable big that tiago was SUPPOSED to be. if we were going to go out and sign a wing player i'd rather get ray allen on a nice 1 year deal. at least he'd come through in the playoffs
Soft is translated batum in French.
We don't need Batum to fill another spot at 3, where we already have Kawhi and Jackson. I'm ok with those 2, don't need another softy![]()
what is with the fest for batum on this board??
we've got an awesome rookie SF in Leonard and a sweet veteran SF in Jackson. We're set at SF
Batum has that Diaw type passivity. It's OK to pay up to MLE for that because there is talent, but Nic will likely demand (and get) MUCH more than that. You can't build around such a player. They are just pieces or parts.
an Ibaka clone sounds more accurate TBH
That's been the "priority" for several years now....what don't the Spurs get about that?? Lol
But Batum just isn't gonna happen.
Why does everybody want a wing? We need shot blocking athletic long bigs if you have those kinds of bigs your perimeter d will look better because you will have a big eraser behind you.
People keep saying we're already set at SF but they keep overlooking my main point about Batum that he CAN PLAY THE ING 2!!!!!!!! He played SG several times for the Blazers this season and yes, he's WAAAAYYYY better than Danny Green. If the opportunity is there, you ING get him. Oh, and we can dream about getting another big all we want, but they don't freaking grow on trees.
