Then Apple doesn't need to charge to replace these items. Easy enough.
So you don't buy it if you want to do that stuff yourself. I don't have much issue with the battery, but the soldered RAM and custom SSD is certainly a deal breaker for me.
Did you see the battery layout on these things? There's simply no way to put them on a detachable pack if you want to keep both the thinness and the huge capacity.
Then Apple doesn't need to charge to replace these items. Easy enough.
Replacement?
I paid for every battery replacement on my iPhone and my daughter's iPhone.
I'm pretty much done with that.
Does Dell/Sony/Lenovo/etc charge you for replacing a non-user-serviceable part? Ofcourse they do.
I used to reimburse people all the time for it when I was on the phones, that sucks. Apple's battery warranty is the same as everyone else's - 1 year.
Why would I be running it on battery?
I bought a laptop for many reasons, making it a gaming laptop made it pretty much useful for anything, obviously I'm not going to go full power while gaming on it's battery alone... but it's pretty sweet to be able to take this anywhere and play pretty much on any table/floor without having to carry a pc/monitor/keyboard.
A simple battery is a user-serviceable part in those.
Thats my point.
Battery replacement out of warranty for my iPhones= $80 ea.
For my Androids now...$15 each.
Ahh, I've never had to replace one before, but the platinum mastercard i buy that kind of stuff with will cover it for two years if I need it. it's a pain to collect all the warranties, invoices. claim forms and the like but it can be worth it.
. I didnt even think about a cc warranty.

If/When you're buying this MacBook, you do so well aware it isn't.
If you want a laptop with user-serviceable battery, don't buy this one![]()
I'll never understand the appeal of that, tbh. You spend your money on a gaming laptop to use it plugged? Do you at least use an external monitor?
For that kind of money you can buy a much more capable desktop that's much easier to upgrade, etc.
New Mac ProTim Cook confirms updated Mac Pro coming in 2013
An email from Apple CEO Tim Cook confirms that the company is indeed working on a professional-level Mac to be released sometime in 2013, allaying current Mac Pro owners' fears that the desktop has reached its end of life.
An email Apple confirmed to be from Cook was sent to a Facebook group page dedicated to the Mac Pro on Monday and said that Apple is "working on something really great" for 2013, reports MacWorld.
While Apple revealed a slight performance bump to the Mac Pro at WWDC on Monday, the update wasn't the significant revamp many professional users were hoping for. The tower received a modest speed boost for its 12-core Xeon chips, but it was revealed that Apple is using CPUs based on Intel's two-year-old Westmere-EP architecture and not newer Xeon E5 silicon. After being posted as "New" on the Apple Online Store, the refreshed Mac Pro's label was dropped early Tuesday without comment from the company.
The email in full:
Cook's message comes on the heels of comments made by a separate anonymous The New York Times source who claimed much the same on Monday. That report noted Apple was working on new models and new designs that would most likely make their way into stores next year. Interestingly, Apple also confirmed the NYT article on Tuesday to Forbes reporter Connie Guglielmo.Franz,
Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn?t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today?s event, don?t worry as we?re working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.
We?ve been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.
We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.
Tim
Apple used the WWDC keynote to announce a bevy of new products, including the next generation MacBook Pro with Retina Display, but the products were mainly targeted at consumers.![]()
I'm going to start saving up money for next year!![]()
Mac Pro needs to die a painful death
Come on Nono, they shouldn't kill the Mac Pro. That's basically the only customizable and interchangeable device that Apple has left. And it offers a lot of computer power to its users.
Come on Tim Cook, don't let us down now...
It's one of the few devices where they basically cannot innovate, and you can build pretty much the exact same machine for 1/3 of the price.
You look at Apple's products, and there's always something they stand out on:
iMac: top of the line all-in-one form factor
MBP: light, thin, top of the line battery life, now retina
Air: light, thin, among top of the line in ultralights
Mini: ultra compact form factor, basically no compe ion on that area
In other words, every platform apple makes it's money is basically using laptop-type components. The Mac Pro is the one machine that they can't really distinguish themselves from the PC market to be able to price it the way they price that thing.
That's what makes this announcement exciting. I'm excited with how they can innovate the Mac Pro. And surely they will bump the specs up, which will mean better power.
Bro, it's the closest to a off-the-shelf desktop PC... You can put together the same Xeon-laden PC without having to pay the Apple tax, tbh.
Damn it, it's the only Apple product left that I don't hate.![]()
u can either buy clone or from another compe or at cheaper rates
only thing i like apple are its sleep white design products, especially that 27 inch IPS LCD.....then again i can get that from DELL or clone at 1/3 the price of apple premium prices
The last Apple PC I bought was the early 2009 Mini I'm using right now (which I upgraded with 8GB RAM and an SSD)... I really, really like the small form factor, I can use this 26" Viewsonic, the keyboard I like and this thing still flies, even though it's a measly 2.0GHz C2D.
I'll probably wait until they come up with a Ivy Bridge Mini before upgrading. I looked at clone offerings in the same form factor, and they all end up costing more with the same configuration.
At the office I run a hackintosh...
Retina MacBook Pro shipping wait now three to four weeks
6 hours ago | Posted in: computers
Shipping times for the Retina display-equipped MacBook Pro have increased yet again. The online Apple Store page for the Retina MacBook Pro now shows that shipping delay for both the 2.3 and 2.6GHz models has jumped from the two-to-three week delay seen just two days ago to three-to-four weeks. Non-Retina MacBook Pros show no shipping delay.

I move around a lot... from city to city, so having a laptop is much better than a desktop in this situation.
And it's really easy to set everything up for a lan party
There is a difference as far as how I play games.. I think I was better at online games like counter strike on my old desktop than I am now, but not that big of a difference.
