Multi-year deal? you!
http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers...r&dlvrit=53297Point guard Ramon Sessions will not exercise a player option to stay with the Lakers and will become a free agent, The Times has learned.
Sessions would have earned $4.55 million next season but chose to test the market. There’s still a chance that Sessions will return to the Lakers by signing a contract, but there’s no guarantee of it.
“Ramon has carefully considered this decision,” said Sessions’ agent, Jared Karnes. “He had to make a career decision and ultimately decided to do what was best in providing stability and longevity for him in the NBA, and this could only be achieved through a multi-year contract.”
Sessions, 26, started off well with the Lakers after being acquired at the trade deadline, averaging 13.7 points and seven assists as a starter in 23 regular-season games.
He tailed off in the playoffs, however, his numbers dropping to 9.7 points and 3.6 assists a game and 37.7% accuracy. He had never been to the playoffs in four other NBA seasons spent mostly as a backup.
He had until Wednesday to decide on his option. Free agency begins June 30 at 9 p.m.
The Lakers acquired Sessions from Cleveland on March 15 for Luke Walton, Jason Kapono, under $1 million in cash and a first-round pick that turned out to be 24th overall. The Lakers also received seldom-used forward Christian Eyenga in the trade.
The Lakers now have only one point guard under contract next season. Steve Blake has two more years and $8 million remaining on his deal.
Darius Morris took the unusual step of signing a one-year deal as a rookie and is a restricted free agent after playing only 19 games with the Lakers.
Sessions suggested he would not exercise his one-year option in an April interview with The Times, hoping to work out a multi-year deal with the Lakers after becoming a free agent.
“I want to be here. I don’t know what that means or how that’s going to happen,” he said at the time. “It ain’t no secret. I’ll tell anybody that. I tell Mitch Kupchak. I tell my agent. I want to be here. Period. For a long time.”
Sign and trade Ramon Sessions for Patty Mills. DO IT MITCH!
Probably a good thing for the Lakers if he signs with another team.
Lakers should go all in after Deron Williams.
had enough bossing around
PG of the future
All Star
Via your sig... I can see that I have another one fascinated with Kool....
At any rate thank goodness...we're gonna find a way to screw him over anyway...I say S&T...we don't need him unless it's as a backup...
I don't think New Jersey is going to want Gasol.
Did anyone watch his play last year with the Lakers and think "Wow, there's a dude who deserves a big contract?"
Just what does he think he's going to get, anyway?
B-b-b-b-ut he is the savior...![]()
A large portion of Laker fans would have given him a max contract during his first month or 2 with LA, tbh..
Players opt out all the time. Yes our PG spot looks shaky ... but if we keep Sessions are we le contenders as currently constructed? Spur fans laughing but we rung two les out of the past 5 years while the Spurs only have 2 trips to the Western Confernece Finals to show for that time-span despite having HCA in 2 of those 5 years. Right now our future looks bleak ... but we have won plenty of times with different supporting casts. I think we are legit le contenders in 5 years or less. Can Spurs fans say the same? In 5 years both Duncan and Pop are gone.
The Lakers need more all stars on their team so they feel they have a shot at winning with their current coach and so their fans don't commit suicide.
Well given the Spurs history since joining the NBA it won't take long for the Spurs to build a winning team in less than five years. The Spurs have mostly done it through the draft. Also, what makes you think that RC won't be running the front office in five years? Lakers, on the other hand, are dependent on landing big name stars from other teams, and with the new CBA what makes you think you'll land a "big fish" any time soon? Truth is the Lakers and Spurs are floating on the same boat. There is no way to predict how good each team will be in five years.
I like how homers like you cherry pick time windows to talk about success. Why not the past 6 years?
In 2007 the Spurs won the le. That's 5 years ago. Way to screw up a good cherry picking opportunity.
@LAIreland: I've been told that the #Lakers are working on a long-term deal with Ramon Sessions
No ing way![]()
Do it Mitch!

What does that have to do with the Spurs?
