Players opt out all the time. Yes our PG spot looks shaky ... but if we keep Sessions are we le contenders as currently constructed? Spur fans laughing but we rung two les out of the past 5 years while the Spurs only have 2 trips to the Western Confernece Finals to show for that time-span despite having HCA in 2 of those 5 years. Right now our future looks bleak ... but we have won plenty of times with different supporting casts. I think we are legit le contenders in 5 years or less. Can Spurs fans say the same? In 5 years both Duncan and Pop are gone.

I don't think New Jersey is going to want Gasol.
Perhaps not, but you have to understand the alternative. Deron is unrestricted once he opts out, meaning he can go anywhere. He can tell the Nets, "hey, I'd like to go to the Lakers if you can make a deal, otherwise, I'll sign with a team who can give me a max contract like Dallas." If the alternative is watching him walk and they get nothing, Gasol sounds like a pretty good return.

Doesn't mean the Nets would take it anyway, but Deron being unrestricted and able to walk for nothing at least gives the Nets some incentive if in fact Deron would like to go to the Lakers.
