I think someone who is compelled to abuse children despite a strong societal standard of correct decent behavior and without fear of punishment is insane.
If fear of imprisonment where you are considered s amongst murderers and other wretched human filth, where you are going to be subjected to violence and abuse everyday for the rest of your life is not enough of deterrent, I doubt the threat of castration would make much difference.
And to take it another step, I would wonder if castration might even escalate the potential danger. Possibly causing them to go farther and farther to try to satisfy whatever sick urge is in their head. Best solution is to just end them on the spot. Save the state the $ spent on lengthy incarceration. Plus eliminate any chance that they might return to society and commit more atrocities.
I would be OK with maybe castrating them without anesthesia for a couple of hours before they were put to death.
