MS is risking it all with win 8
After using it for a while and seeing the enterprise potential. I cannot call it a failure just yet. It even possibly could be a home run. too early to tell though
marketers too... Surface for Windows 8 Pro?
I'm interested to see if the HP Touchpad will eventually get a windows port from someone. That might be pretty neat.
XP and resolution (just for you, LM)
nope, Devs won't touch this because of the licensing of windows. It would be illegal and easily traceable back to them. Could also hurt their employment prospects if a potential employer looks them up online and sees that they are working on illegal projects.
I too run my cable through wmc, and then onto my 360. I agree, I'll pay for the new wmc, if it is cared for.
why don't you just use Plex or XBMC or free? They're better.
Oh didn't even think about that.I got so used to Android being open source I forgot Windows actually costs money.
You could, however, use splashtop right now to run Win8 preview on your touchpad.
Android sucks. I don't know how ppl can even compare it to iOS or even Win. and I have 2 android devices.
iOS is solid. but its so rigid.
If Win can be as solid as iOS and customizable as Android it will be the winner in my book.
i think they are moving towards unifying their brand across markets, doubt they are not rigid as always.
I don't think anyone can upgrade to windows 8. Gotta buy as a clean install.
Anyway, Im predicting Windows 8 will put them back in the game.
Windows 7 works awesome and already did that.
I also think the people who just bought Lumias get a raw deal. But you can still have the new Start screen with 7.8!
This. So much.
Microsoft just obsoleted their supposed flagship phone a little more than two months after it became available on contract. That's 10% of the duration of the contract.
If Apple or Google had launched a new OS version and announced that NONE of their phones currently out would be able to upgrade to it two months after the launch of the 4S/Galaxy Nexus, people would be screaming bloody murder.
Microsoft essentially made Nokia![]()

Always-outspoken Gabe Newell, the big cheese at Valve, made quite a few interesting statements at this year's Casual Connect conference, including the quote above. Gabe believes Microsoft's impending update will drive manufacturers away from the OS and he reiterated Valve's plan to make the entire Steam catalog available on Linux as a "hedging strategy." During the onstage discussion, he also weighed in on the longevity of touch input, which he estimates at a decade, the possibility of tongue control and the future of wearable computers. Other classic quotes include "the next version of Photoshop should look like a free-to-play game," which Adobe apparently didn't quite understand -- and frankly, neither do we.
The only thing I want to hear out of Gabe's ing mouth is a release date for HL3 (or HL2: Episode ing 3).
i never even thought about that. 2 half lifes in what, 15 years? that's milking it
What I've seen of Windows 8 is actually pretty cool.
Their Surface tablet also looks cool.
What aggravates me more is after HL2 in 2004, they said they were going to make the 'Episodes' trilogy which would make up HL3.
They released HL2: Ep 1 in 2006, Ep 2 and 2007....then that's it. What the happened?
How can people still pay for Windows when Linux is 10x better AND free?
In a word: software
That's what VMs are for... so really no excuse anymore. Plus, about 90% of what is available on Microsoft is also on Linux but also free... Really, the only reason people I know use Windows is for gaming. Hopefully Valve makes the jump and dumps Windows.
yeah, they're gonna dump the platform an overwhelming majority of their customers use.
