i know it's pretty funny right? like the guy who had kobe as the best in 06 and 07, i'd replace him with wade in both years or wade in 06 and dirk in 07.

come to think of it, kobe has never been the best player in the league at any given point in time.
    Troof!!!

He's simply a model of consistency and longevity. A player, by virtue of his work ethic and dedication, has managed to be a perennial top 5 player in the league from about '01 to '10. He's this generation's Karl Malone with rings. Chokes like the Mailman, too, but lucky for Kirb, he's always had the league's best frontline to carry him through those droughts.

Why do you morons think, after 9 years in the league, he's all of a sudden going to develop a consistent jumpshot?

That's never going to come, once Lebron's athleticism fails him so will his dominance in this league. He will not be able to be as effective as Kobe/MJ in his later years, you can take that to the bank.

For everyone who says Jordan didn't develop a post game until later in his career, go ahead and look at Jordan's F/T percentages since coming into the league. His shooting touch was always there, he just never had to utilize it until his athleticism started to fade.
Rofl. The "jumpshot" criticism. Lebron will continue to play at his current level (or very near it) for about 3 to 4 more years, and if he grabs a couple more les as the CLEAR number one, there's no logical argument you can make that Kirby is the greater player.

No one gives a about "more skilled" or "longevity" arguments.

Comparing him to Malone is way too far tbh. Malone was a complete pile of when it mattered, and is probably the most overrated player in the history of the league. Kobe is still a solid top 10 alltime player.

lol @ delusional posters. Jordan says there is one player than can be compared to him and according to you he's never been the best player in the league. LMAO!
Jordan also thought Kwame Brown was the future of his franchise.

All of Kobe's championships were on teams that won by dominating the paint with the best front line/most dominant big man in the league. When you're a perimeter and all of your championships have come on teams that won because of their front line and in spite of your perimeter play, it diminishes your value. Lebron as a perimeter just won a championship in spite of a mediocre and undersized front line because he anchored the most dominant perimeter defense in the league and compensated for the lack of rebounding they got from their bigs.

Also, as I said countless times, Lebron has achieved the ultimate NBA feat that Kobe never accomplished. Winning MVP and finals MVP in the same season proves certain things that aren't provable any other way.
Especially since it was almost a consensus that Lebron was giving up any future MVP awards by becoming "Robin" to Wade's "Batman".

To take over another superstar's team and win MVP and Finals MVP in the same year is quite a feat.

If James can put together another two seasons like this one, I think he's a top 5 player alltime, at worst. Maybe even the best forward of alltime in that case. And frankly, I don't think it's all that unlikely in his physical prime.

Lebron didn't get his ring until he joined forces with Wade and Bosh in a move that even MJ said he would never have made due to his compe ive nature. Lebron took the easy way out to win his ring, don't act like he was playing on a scrub team. His team was expected to win and they did.

Btw, who does MJ say is the closest player to him in the league? Hazard a guess idiots.

LOL @ it being anywhere close to the same situation. If the Cavs draft guys like Oakley and Pippen, LeBron would have no reason to leave.

This thread has turned south. Jealous haters had to ruin it. Lebron is the best basketball player in the world. Don't know why Jordan won't admit to it.

haters gonna hate but bron was da true god in the finals this year. his supporting casts were overrated to some extent also, of course they're alot better then those he got in cleveland but he still had to carry the load on his own shoulders when really matters. bron has matured alot since he joined miami imho and he's a better player then ever, if you swap the today for the 07' one, the cavs would probably still lose to dem spurs but the series would've hardly been a 4-0 sweep tbh

Jordan had no problem say Kobe was the "closest" since it's obvious Kobe isn't really even close to being in MJ's level, but I think he see Lebron as a threat to his throne tbh.

I like Lebron alot more then Jordan, Everyone talks about the bad move lebron made about "The decision" well there was no internet when Jordan was gambling and had become a gambling addict, cheated on his wife all the time, did not pay a gambling debt which lead to his fathers murder. Jordan is a known asshole..he was clutch though, no doubt.

Lebron may not be as clutch but if he just played the way he did in the finals he wont need to be clutch cause nobody could guard him and he is a amazing passer.

Lebron just needs to drive to basket, he can either score or pass.
    He is already great.

Im a lakers fan, but Kobe is useless now, pure volume shooter, i hate his subpar shooting decisions and percentage, just a ball hog at this point, and wont even pass to bynum or gasol, he still showsbrilliance from time to time but you can tell in his mind he thinks he can beat his defender and he tries to but the 23 years olds
are 3 steps quicker then the 33 year old Kobe, Bryants surgery in germany gave him false confidence.

He should be looking to pass more this coming season. He wont, he looks like a stubborn prick bent on moving up the scoring charts.

all of Kobe's championships were either with prime Shaq or a Bynum/Gasol/Odom front court which is collectively as dominant as prime Shaq in an era with big men. In 2009 and 2010 the teams LA played always struggled to defend Gasol/Bynum/Odom a lot more than they did Kobe.

pretending Kobe wouldn't have bailed on a team that couldn't do better than Mo Williams as the 2nd best player
pretending that demanding a trade to the Lakers the day he was drafted wasn't taking the easy way out
pretending the opinion of someone who thought Adam Morrison was a franchise player is relevant

Didn't he demand a trade after the 2nd Phoenix bukkaking?

I don't blame him, his prime was being wasted. But lol @ people trying to on LeBron for doing the same thing (actually, LeBron left as a free agent).

LA fans are even more delusional and naive about Kobe's loyalty to LA than Phoenix fans are about Nash's loyalty to Phoenix.

Kobe doesn't give two s about the city of LA or its fans. He's stayed in LA his entire career because it's provided him the best opportunity to win championships while also making him the highest paid player in basketball by over $3,000,000. If Kobe cared anything about loyalty he would have been loyal to the team that drafted him.

demanding a trade before even putting a jersey on

Go to basketballreference and look at his roster. I honestly think there isn't another player in the history of the league who would have won 66 games with that roster. Not 1988 Jordan, not 1995 Olajuwon, not 2000 Shaq, etc.
That team had one star + average - slightly above average players. Imagine if they had a coach like Pop who coulda made their role players play over their heads...

Good point, I take it back. - Slightly less players. Lebron carried that team all the way to his head.

But, but, but Kobe didn't leave to go to them! Even though he lives in LA and one other guy lives in the beautiful city of CLE, it should have been even odds!

People are still using this excuse?

Bosh missed the entire 2nd round and most of the 3rd, and wade's knee was ed up the entire playoffs...he was invisible through most of the games and was almost a liability with his crucial turnovers.

Lebron just turned in one of the most impressive post season performances ever IMO. You can't hate on him. He literally did everything...scoring, rebounding, passing, defense as well as playing almost every minute. He guarded Granger, West,Hill, Peirce, Garnett, Durant and Westbrook for significant minutes and was clutch down the stretch. Not to mention every time his team was down in a series (through no fault of his own) he delivered a game for the ages.

He will finish higher on the all time players list than kobe in the mind of every non-Lakers fan...just accept it.
