If you want to join in while someone is being skewered and offer your witty anecdotes and your snooty put downs because someone doesn't have the proper degree as in Avante's historian claim-then you are also fair game and if I stoop to childish levels it is to teach you all a lesson.

It would have been cool if Avante would have just been treated courteously even if you didn't think he was a proper historian. It would have been classy of you and of others to instead indulge him and let him share his facts, It would have hurt no-one.
